With the news that Germany will switch national broadcasters for future Eurovision participation, children’s broadcaster KiKA has confirmed that Germany will not participate in Junior Eurovision 2025.
Germany will not participate at Junior Eurovision 2025
KiKA, the children’s channel administered by ARD and ZDF that has run Germany’s Junior Eurovision participation since their debut in 2021, confirmed to ESCPLUS that Germany will not participate at the upcoming edition of Junior Eurovision.
Germany has already shaken up their Eurovision presence this year, confirming that SWR will take over participation duties from NDR beginning in the 2026 season. NDR has similarly confirmed noninvolvement in Junior Eurovision 2025. Germany is the second country to withdraw from Junior Eurovision, following Estonia’s confirmation that they would not be participating.
Germany’s Junior Eurovision journey
Germany was originally due to join the Junior Eurovision family in the initial edition of the Contest, but unexpectedly withdraw. This also happened in 2004, when Germany withdrew ahead of the Contest in Lillehammer. It wasn’t until 2020 in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic that Germany first participated in a Junior Eurovision event. Germany has participated on four occasions, the first being 2020 – when Susan performed “Stronger With You”, finishing 12th in a field of 12. Their best result occurred in 2023, when Fia placed ninth with her song “Ohne Worte”.
Germany most recently participated in the 2024 contest in Madrid, where Bjarne sang “Save the Best for Us”. He scored 14 points from the jury and 57 from the online vote, ultimately placing eleventh out of seventeen.

The EBU should make Junior Eurovision a songwriting competition again. Also, KiKa better not be absent from all future JESC editions. Otherwise, Germany would never win.
