Check out our interview with Laura Thorn here!
Together, Tim and Laura chatted about her journey after winning the Luxembourg Song Contest all the way back in January. She also touches on her Eurovision performance, and how this is helping her career as a budding musician.
Who is Laura Thorn?
Laura Thorn is a 25-year-old singer from Luxembourg. Though new to the public eye, Laura Thorn might be one of the most qualified musicians in all of Luxembourg, possessing training in several aspects of music performance, most recently completing a Master’s degree in Music Theory, Music Pedagogy and Pop Singing from the Institute Royal Top Music and Pédagogie De Namur in Belgium. She teaches as the Esch-sur-Alzette Conservatory.
Laura’s Eurovision song – “La poupée monte le son” harks back to Luxembourg’s winning song from 1965. The track was written by Christophe Houssin, Julien Salvia and Ludovic-Alexandre Vidal.
Luxembourg’s Eurovision journey
Luxembourg first made its debut in the first edition of the Contest in 1956, with their first entries being “Ne crois pas” and “Les Amants de minuit”, both performed by Michèle Arnaud. Since the first Contest, Luxembourg has competed a total of 38 times. Their best result was finishing in 1st place five times – in 1961, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1983 respectively.
Luxembourg returned to the contest for the first time in 31 years in 2024. Tali represented Luxembourg in Malmö, with the song “Fighter” bringing Luxembourg their first semifinal qualification–since they last participated before the semifinal system even existed! In the Grand Final, “Fighter” received 103 points: 83 from the national juries, and 20 from the televoters.
