Azerbaijan has just selected its entrant its Yağmur, who will travel to Tbilisi! The announcement was made at a press conference held today by the national public broadcaster.
Selection process
According to the delegation, it was decided that Yagmur would be the representative based on the outcome of a two-stage selection process. In the first stage, 15 participants were chosen from more than 60 applications and invited to a live audition round. At this stage, each performance was evaluated by a professional jury.
Following the jury’s assessment, Yagmur emerged as the clear winner in the final results. She received three first-place rankings, one second-place ranking and another high placement within the top five.
The jury was composed of well-known cultural and artistic figures from the country, including:
- Siyavush Karimi – People’s Artist, composer
- Govhar Hasanzadeh – Honoured Artist, composer
- Vugar Jamalzadeh – Honoured Artist, composer
- Samira Efendi – singer and Azerbaijan’s Eurovision 2020–2021 representative
- Yashar Bakhish – composer and arranger
- Javid Imamverdiyev – Director of the Azerbaijan State Academic Musical Theatre
Who is Yağmur?
Yağmur was born on 27 July 2013. She has been involved in music since the age of eight and is currently a student at the Children’s School of Fine Arts No. 5 in the third grade. Showing a particular passion for pop and classical music, Yagmur’s favourite artists include Michael Jackson, Billie Eilish, Jennie (BLACKPINK), Aygun Kazimova and Aybeniz Hashimova.
Sharing her first impressions after being selected, Yagmur said:
“I’m very happy to represent Azerbaijan in Tbilisi. This will be an incredible experience for me.”
It should be noted that the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2025 will take place in Tbilisi on 13 December.
Azerbaijan’s Junior Eurovision journey
Azerbaijan joined the Junior Eurovision family in 2012, with Omar and Suada singing “Girls and Boys (Dünya Sənindir)” in Amsterdam. At the close of voting, Azerbaijan finished 11th in a field of 12, earning 49 points. Azerbaijan has since participated three more times in 2013, 2018 and 2021 respectively.
The country’s most recent participation came in 2021, when Sona Azizova performed her song “One of Those Days” at La Seine Musicale in Paris. Sona gave Azerbaijan its best placing in its history of participating in the Contest. When voting had finished, Azerbaijan finished in 5th place with 151 points. Of these points, 109 came from professional juries, whilst 42 points were attributed from the online public vote.
