Ahead of Eurovision 2026, Molly got to speak with Sarah Engels about her experience making “Fire”, what audiences may expect in Eurovision and how she is finding the experience so far. Sarah Engels is representing Germany in Eurovision 2026 with her song “Fire”.
Can you introduce yourself to the That Eurovision Site audience?
“I’m Sarah, I’m a singer and a mom of two, and music has been a big part of my life for many years. I love being on stage, but at the same time, I’m someone who really values the simple, everyday moments with my family. And I think that mix is what defines me the most.”
How did it feel winning Das deutsche Finale?
“That moment was incredibly emotional for me. So many feelings came together at once – joy, relief, gratitude. I think the first thing I thought was: we actually did it. All the hard work suddenly became real. Sharing that moment with my team made it even more special.”
How does your experience on The Masked Singer compare to Eurovision 2026?
“The Masked Singer was such a unique experience because it was all about the voice and the mystery. Eurovision is very different – it combines everything: performance, emotion, and connection, but on a much bigger, international level. It feels more intense, but also very special.”
What is the story behind “Fire”?
“‘Fire’ is a very personal song about finding your strength again and coming back to yourself. It’s about letting go of doubt and not letting others define who you are. It comes from my own experiences, but I think it’s something many people can relate to.”
How does it feel to represent Germany at Eurovision?
“It means a lot to me. It’s a huge honor to stand on that stage and represent my country. At the same time, I try to stay true to myself and focus on the music and the message I want to share.”
What has been your favourite moment about the Eurovision journey so far?
“For me, it’s definitely the people. Meeting so many artists and feeling this strong, supportive community has been really special. And seeing how people connect with the song means so much to me.”
Can you tell us anything about your Eurovision performance?
“I don’t want to reveal too much yet, but we are working on making the performance even more emotional and intense. The core will stay, but I think there are still some beautiful moments to discover.”
What is a German food or drink that you can’t go without?
I would definitely say good German bread – I really can’t go without it. And especially the bakeries in Germany… they’re just something else. Whenever I’m abroad, that’s one of the things I miss the most. I have to admit, I also love having a Coke Zero from time to time – that’s my little everyday treat.
What advice would you give to the other artists competing this year?
“I think the most important thing is to stay true to yourself and really enjoy the moment. It goes by so quickly, and it’s such a special experience. And at the end of the day, it’s all about connecting with people.”
What is your post-Eurovision dream?
“I would love to continue making music and reaching even more people with it. And also to grow as an artist and try new things. For me, it feels like the beginning of a new chapter.”
What would you like to say to your fans?
“I just want to say thank you. The support I’ve received means so much to me. It gives me so much strength, and I really hope I can give something back through my music.”
