DR announces DMGP submissions now open

The Danish national broadcaster has announced the submission window for entries to Dansk Melodi Grand Prix is now open. DR have also announced the rules of the contest which will be used to select Denmark’s Eurovision 2027 entry. The news comes following Søren Torpegaard Lund’s win at the national final in 2026.

The submission window runs until October 25th at midnight. A total of 8 songs will be performed at the final of DMGP 2027 on February 13th. The rules for this year’s DMGP remain largely unchanged from previous editions:

  • The submissions must be in an audio and video file format of the artist wishing to enter performing the song they wish to enter the contest with
  • Either the composer, lyricist or artist performing the song must be a Danish citizen, or have a strong connection to Denmark. (DR gives the examples of having lived in Denmark for a long period of time, or being married to a Dane.) Danes living in the Faroe Islands or Greenland are also welcome to apply to the selection.
  • The submitted song must meet the rules of the Eurovision Song Contest 2027. That includes the song being no longer than 3 minutes in length and no more than 6 members of the performance can appear on stage. The song must be both an original composition and original lyrics. The song should not have been performed live or released online previously. DR must be made expressly aware before the song is submitted if this is the case, where a decision on eligibility will be made by DR. The song must not contain political or commercial messages.
  • Composers and lyricists may submit multiple entries.
  • The song can be submitted in any language of the entrant’s choosing. If selected, the language the song is performed in at the Eurovision Song Contest 2027 will be decided by both the artist and DR together.
  • Performers must be 18 years old at the time of performing at the Song Contest in Bulgaria in 2027.

Submissions can be made now, until October 25th at midnight at dr.dk/grandprix. A panel of jury experts selected by DR will choose the songs that will take part in DMGP and will announce after the submission window has closed in a press release.

What is DMGP?

Dansk Melodi Grand Prix is the oldest national final in the Eurovision sphere. The national final has been going since Denmark’s debut in the contest back in 1957. There are often around 8 acts who take part in the national selection, and the same is true this year. The voting process has changed over the years but currently the winner is determined by 50% jury voting and 50% televoting. Denmark is one of a few countries to introduce a super-final round which narrows the artists down to three before deciding the final result. The DMGP final will this year take place on February 13th in the Sydbank Arena in Kolding.

Denmark’s Eurovision Journey

Denmark first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1957 and notched up their first win in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgan Ingmann’s “Dansevise”. Denmark later earned two third-place finishes in 1988 and 1989 but was then relegated three times in 1994, 1996, and 1998. They finally achieved their second victory in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers’ “Fly on the Wings of Love”, and have missed the Grand Final eight times since the introduction of the semi-finals. A six-year qualification streak from 2008 culminated in its third win in 2013 with Emmelie de Forrest’s “Only Teardrops”.

Søren Torpegaard Lund won the right to represent Denmark at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2026 with “Før vi går hjem”. He qualified for the Grand Final and would eventually finish in 7th place, earning a total of 243 points. Of these 165 came from juries, while 78 came from the televote.
