What our team makes of “Love Is On My Side”

As ever our team has given their opinions on tonight’s winner, here is what we think of “Love Is On My Side” :

Jazzi – I am quite shocked this won, I honestly thought Carolina had it in the bag. This is a pleasant enough song, however I feel it may be a tad too inoffensive to do well at Eurovision. It is also a shock to see Portugal send a song entirely in English, in fact the top 2 songs with the public tonight in Portugal were, therefore are we seeing a change in trend for Portuguese Eurovision entries.

Rosie – Well, this came out of nowhere! This song has absolutely passed me by so far, and in a national final with so many beautiful, interesting entries, this feels like possibly the wrong choice. I think it’s one I’m going to need to sit with for a while to see how I feel about it. It’s certainly a different option for Portugal, and their first entry in English, and while I appreciate that it’s a risk for them, it feels like it loses a little bit of the uniqueness that Portugal usually brings.

Rory – I am really quite shocked this has made it, but I’m by all means happy that Portugal is taking it in a new direction. This Portugal’s first time sending a song completely in English, so it a risk for sure, but I am presently surprised! I like the idea of it and I’ll need some more listens to really form an opinion of where its on my rankings. But I think this would do well enough to get onto the final.

So that is what our team makes of what went down in Portugal tonight, what were your thoughts? Are you as shocked about the outcome as we are, please be sure to let us know on all our social media platforms.
