It has been over a month since Kalush Orchestra won the Eurovision Song Contest 2022 in Turin Italy. Today the Live-On-Tape performances that were recorded in the event an artist could not perform in Turin continues to be released. The penultimate performance that was released was Malik Harris’ performance of their song “Rockstars”.
About Malik Harris
Malik Harris is a young German singer. His father Ricky is an American TV host based in Germany. Malik’s father was originally from Detroit. Malik released his first single back in 2018, along with his first album “Anonymous Colonist” last year. In early March Malik Harris won “Germany 12 Points” with his song “Rockstars” earning him the right to represent his country in Eurovision.
What is a Live-On-Tape
A Live-On Tape performance is essentially a backup performance. Last year they were used in the event that a delegation could not travel to Rotterdam. This proved to be the case for the Australian delegation in 2021, due to the strict travel restrictions in place in the country at the time. Iceland also had to use a backup performance, however instead of the one they recorded in Iceland they used rehearsal footage, recorded in Rotterdam. Iceland had to use a Live-On tape due to several members of Daði & Gagnamagnið testing positive for Covid-19 during Eurovision 2021.

Germany’s Eurovision Journey
Germany has been part of Eurovision since the beginning, debuting in 1956. Their debut entries were Walter Andreas Schwarz’s “Im Wartesaal zum großen Glück” and Freddy Quinn’s “So geht das jede Nacht”. Germany has appeared at every Eurovision since except for 1996, which means they have been at more contests than any other country. They have a long history of success in Eurovision, finishing in the top 3 an impressive 13 times. Germany has won the contest twice. Nicole won in 1982 with her song “Ein bißchen Frieden”, taking home 161 points in the process. Their second win came in 2010 when Lena scored 246 points with her song “Satellite”.
Germany’s most recent Eurovision entry was Malik Harris’ “Rockstars”. As Germany is part of the Big 5, they automatically qualified for the Grand Final. In the Final, the song received 6 points and finished 25th in the Final.
