After previously revealing that they will be holding an open audition to select its Junior Eurovision 2022 representative for Yerevan, Spain’s broadcaster RTVE has now revealed the rules for the open audition process.
Submissions open from August 16 until September 15
The open audition process will be undertaken over a few phases from now until the end of the process.
First, an online casting will be done, where they provide two performances. Interested participants are able to do this from August 16 until September 15. The submitted entries would then be evaluated by an evaluation commission, made up of RTVE professionals.
Second, a face-to-face casting would then take place in Madrid (which is expected to take place at the end of September). After this, the evaluation commission would then have a maximum of 10 days to assess the finalists to then select Spain’s Junior Eurovision 2022 representative.
Once selected, the artists would be working on Spain’s Junior Eurovision 2022 entry throughout October (which includes the recording of the entry, as well as a music video). RTVE has set a deadline of November 4, 2022, to submit the entry to the EBU.
Further information about the rules, can be found right here.
Spain’s Junior Eurovision Journey
In 2003, Spain was one of the countries to participate in the inaugural edition of the competition with Sergio and the song “Desde el cielo”, and placed 2nd with 125 points. The year after, Spain managed to win the competition with María Isabel and the song “Antes muerta que sencilla”. The nation participated for two more years and took a 12-year break, where it returned in 2019, with Melani Garcia and her entry “Marte” which placed 3rd.
Spain’s recent attempt in the competition saw them internally select Levi Díaz and the song “Reír“, which saw them finish 15th after scoring 77 points from the jury and the online vote.
