Ahead of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2022, Rory got to speak Katarina Savić – who will represent Serbia at this year’s Contest.

In the interview, Rory talks to Katarina about her Junior Eurovision journey. She tells us about what her song “Svet Bez Granica” means to her, and how she became such a keen trombone player. We also talk about some of her favourite entries to both the Junior and the adult Contests.
The road to Junior Eurovision for Katarina Savić
Katarina Savić’s favorite musicians are Harry Styles, Taylor Swift, and BTS. The thirteen-year-old hails from Belgrade, where she was discovered after RTS’ open call for Junior Eurovision submissions. And she doesn’t only sing; Katerina also enjoys ballet dancing and playing her trombone.
Serbia’s Junior Eurovision journey
In 2006, Serbia debuted in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with Neustrašivi učitelji stranih jezika and the song “Učimo strane jezike” (Учимо стране језике), which placed 5th. The Balkan nation competed until 2010, where it took a three-year break between 2011 and 2013. Since 2014, Serbia has continuously participated in the competition.
Serbia’s most recent participation in the competition in 2021, saw them being represented by Jovana and Dunja with the song “Children’s Eyes” which placed 13th overall in the competition, where Serbia received 86 points from the jury and online voting.
