The Winners

Breath Upon The Flame – “Breath Upon The Flame” (LP)

Remember that fascinating project 1996 winner Eimear Quinn released a track for back in April? Well, the full album of the “Breath Upon The Flame” project is now out! The self-titled, 13-track album features previous release “Peace Upon This Land” and a new version of Eimear’s winning track “The Voice”, which has been transformed through a new composition and is as entrancing as ever.

Kalush Orchestra – “Human (feat. JONA XX)” and “Chase”

I hate platform-exclusive releases, but what am I going to do about it? Ukraine’s most recent Eurovision champions, Kalush Orchestra, have released two new tracks to their “Spotify Singles” collection. one is a collab with German singer JONA XX, while “Chase” is a cover of the Giorgio Moroder song that won an Oscar as a part of the score of 1978 film “Midnight Express”.

KALUSH – “До берега йду”

I’ve said it before and I will say it again: where the Orchestra-group goes, the OG trio is sure to follow (and vice versa). So, of course, KALUSH also released some new music this month with new track “До берега йду” (I’m going to the shore). Motivational yet moody, dark yet uplifting, deep yet easy to vibe to, this might be one of my fave tracks of theirs so far musically. Lyrically, the track is about writing one’s own destiny, and believing in yourself to make it past the obstacles coming your way. Although I must admit that writing said description feels wrong, considering the band had this to say about the track: “Usually you write a description for a song here. So the description for this song is in the song itself. Just listen to it…”

Carola – “Händer upp”

The three-time contestant and one-time winner Carola is asking us to put our “Händer upp” (Hands up) to celebrate the 40th anniversary of her music career. It’s an upbeat, danceable track written and composed by Carola together with Adéle Cechal (Molly Sandén’s “Hata Mig,” Malou Prytz’s “I Do Me”) and the song’s producer Carl Wikström Ask (co-writer on hit albums such as Daniel Adams-Ray’s debut album “Svart, vitt och allt däremellan” and Veronica Maggio’s “Satan i gatan”).

Sertab Erener – “Her Dem Yeşil” (LP)

Sertab had a busy month of covers in June, and now Turkey’s 2003 Eurovision winner is wrapping up a different project. Her new album “Her Dem Yeşil” (Ever Green) consists of 10 Sertab Erener classics which all have been re-arranged and recorded. “Kumsalda” got the duet and music video treatment, with Turkish rapper and songwriter Ozbi joining Sertab on the track.

Yung Yury – “TABU. RMX” feat Lena

Germany’s Lena has steadily been releasing music again. Hot on the heels of last month’s “What I Want,” the 2010 champ makes a guest appearance on a track by German rapper Yung Yury. The track, “TABU. RMX” is, well, a remix of the song “TABU,” which was a big hit in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, and also Yung Yury’s first chart appearance in each of those countries. The original mix by producer Damn Yury was EDM-ed up by Luca-Dante Spadafora and Niklas Dee.
