The Irish selection for Junior Eurovision 2023 ‘Junior Eurovision Éire’ continues to take pace, as TG4 has now revealed that the selection is set to commence on the 3rd of September at 20:30.
What we know about Junior Eurovision Éire 2023
Further information about this year’s selection was revealed when TG4 revealed its schedule for Autumn 2023. It’s been revealed that Louise Cantillo and Darragh Ó Caoimh will host once again. Whilst Niamh Nà ChróinÃn and Aindriú de Paor will be the permanent judges for this season. The judges are joined by former Eurovision participants, with Brooke Scullion who represented Ireland in 2022 confirmed as the first guest judge.
Usually, the judges select Ireland’s representative for Junior Eurovision. However, TG4 has confirmed in its press release that a viewer vote will be selecting Ireland’s representative once again.
Ireland’s Junior Eurovision Journey
Ireland first participated in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2015. Débuting alongside Australia, Ireland was represented by Aimee Banks singing ” Réalta na Mara”. At the close of voting, Ireland finished in 12th place – receiving 36 points. Ireland has since participated a further seven times. Their best placement came in 2022, when Sophie Lennon finished in fourth place with her song “Solas”.
In 2022, Sophie Lennon represented Ireland in Yerevan with her song “Solas”. Ireland’s most recent participation, she finished 4th in a field of 16, earning 150 points. Of these, 88 came from professional juries, whilst the remaining 62 were from the online vote.
