As we enter 2024 and May draws closer, more national broadcasters are beginning their search for their Eurovision hopefuls. Next up is RTÉ, who will begin to reveal the songs competing to represent Ireland in Eurosong 2024 from January 8th.

Details for Eurosong 2024 to be revealed

The news was announced on the Éirevision podcast, who also revealed that around 380 entries were submitted for selection. The 6 successful competing artists and their songs will be broadcast on RTÉ Radio 1’s Ray D’Arcy Show, between 16:00 and 17:30 CET throughout the week of January 8th. However, the format of Eurosong 2024 is yet to be revealed. In previous years the competition has taken place as a Eurovision special of the Late Late Show on RTÉ One, with the winning entry decided by an equally-weighted national jury, international jury and public televote.

Ireland’s Eurovision journey

In 1965, Ireland made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with Butch Moore and the song “Walking the Streets in the Rain”, which managed to place 6th. Since their debut, Ireland has participated 56 times (making the Grand Final 45 times). The country has won the competition seven times, which is currently tied for the record of most wins.

Ireland’s latest Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Wild Youth, with their song “We Are One”. They placed 12th in the semi-final, receiving 10 points from the televote, missing out on the Grand Final.
