Together, Rory and JyellowL talk about JyellowL’s motivation to go to Eurovision and the meaning behind his song “Judas”. As well as this, he talks about his admiration for female vocalist Toshín, and how he is (not so) quietly confident about his chances for success in the selection. He also gives recommendations for his other music if you enjoy “Judas”.
About JyellowL
JyellowL is the stage name of Jean-Luc Uddoh, an Irish rapper born in 1998. Born in Nigeria, Jean-Luc moved to Ireland at the age of 14 to live with his mother and pursue his dream of making music. Uddoh started performing in 2016 and soon shot to stardom, performing at large Irish music festivals including Longtitude in 2018. His song “Ozone” was also featured on the soundtrack for FIFA 20, which has sold millions of copies. His Eurovision song “Judas” was written by himself, together with Gavin James.
Ireland’s Eurovision journey
In 1965, Ireland made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with Butch Moore and the song “Walking the Streets in the Rain”, which managed to place 6th. Since their debut, Ireland has participated 56 times (making the Grand Final 45 times), and has won the competition seven times, which is currently tied for the record of most wins.
Ireland’s latest Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Wild Youth, with their song “We Are One”. They placed 12th in the semi-final, receiving 10 points from the televote, missing out on the Grand Final.
