1st TALI – “Fighter” (2.20):

What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from the Luxembourg Song Contest 2024?

Tim (“Fighter”): I might always be the person who likes pop bangers, but I can like other genres as well if given a track that has great production value. I like the beginning in French, and just how it blends on from then on with the instrumentation. The only thing I am curious about is how this will be staged, I cannot imagine it in my head, but I’m sure Tali will pull it off.

Daniel (”Paumée Sur Terre”): There’s a fair few good songs in this selection, but Naomi Ayé Paumée sur terre stands out for me as a classy Francophone ballad that reminds me a lot of what we were missing without Luxembourg in Eurovision. I’m a sucker for a sad girl ballad and Naomi has performed this one very well.

Rory (“Believer”): Luxembourg’s first national selection in 30 years will of course have some teething issues, but all of the songs have some redeeming quality to it. But for me, Joel’s “Believer” has an anthemic quality that stands out much more than the rest. His ability to grab you in with his unique voice and the song’s gradual build into a huge crescendo leaves you feeling satisfied. If Luxembourg sent this, they should be very proud of it

Luxembourg’s Eurovision Journey

Luxembourg first made its debut in the first edition of the Contest in 1956, with their first entries being “Ne crois pas” and “Les amants de minuit”, both performed by Michèle Arnaud. Since the first Contest, Luxembourg has competed a total of 37 times. Their best result was finishing in 1st place five times – in 1961, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1983 respectively.

Luxembourg last took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993, when Modern Times represented the nation with the song “Donne-moi une chance”. At the close of voting, Luxembourg finished 20th in a field of 25 with 11 points. Following this participation, Luxembourg withdrew from the Contest, but is returning to the Contest in time for 2024.
