The first Luxembourg Song contest takes place on Saturday, and Tali is amongst those hoping to take the Grand Duchy back to the Eurovision Stage. She sat down with Daniel to discuss her song and career as an artist so far.
Check out our interview with Tali here!
Daniel spoke to Tali about her preparations for Luxembourg Song Contest, how she discovered Eurovision through her grandfather and their mutual love for Cornelia Jakobs.
About Tali
In her own words, Tali is “a cocktail of cultures” – She lives in New York grew up in Chile, Argentina & Luxembourg, and was born to an Israeli mother and Peruvian father.
She describes her usual style as pop indie, taking inspiration from the likes of Lizzy McAlpine & Maggie Rogers. She is also working on a debut album with the band Blue Stripes, which takes a more funk-jazz leaning akin to Stevie Wonder. She says her Luxembourg Song Contest entry ‘Fighter’ is “not normally what I gear towards, but is super fun.”
Luxembourg’s Eurovision Journey
Luxembourg first made its debut in the first edition of the Contest in 1956, with their first entries being “Ne crois pas” and “Les amants de minuit”, both performed by Michèle Arnaud. Since the first Contest, Luxembourg has competed a total of 37 times. Their best result was finishing in 1st place five times – in 1961, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1983 respectively.
Luxembourg last took part in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1993, when Modern Times represented the nation with the song “Donne-moi une chance”. At the close of voting, Luxembourg finished 20th in a field of 25 with 11 points. Following this participation, Luxembourg withdrew from the Contest, but is returning to the Contest in time for 2024.
