What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from Sanremo 2024?

Daniel (“Onda Alta”): I’m way more impressed with Sanremo this year than I have been in recent years, but even in a much stronger field this stands out by a mile. Onda Alta is just so incredibly, perfectly, Dargen. The way he’s managed to combine such poignant lyrics, becoming much more present throughout the song whilst maintaining his signature uptempo style and sound is nothing short of artistic brilliance.

Angus (“Sinceramente”): Annalisa delivers a powerful performance of a song that is equal measures bop and emotional, beautifully blending modern pop sensibilities with classic, dramatic ballad elements into an engaging complete package that you want to listen to again and again

Rory (“Apnea”): I have to say, Apnea was not the song I first thought it was when Emma performed it on the first night. But having listened to all the songs over the last few days, it’s clear to me that this song is a huge standout. To me, it feels like if Italy sent Emma again, this would be the equivalent of sending a Romanian eurodance banger from 2008 to the Contest – and I mean that as a huge compliment. Sanremo has delivered quality yet again this year and I’m excited to see how it turns out!

Italy’s’s Eurovision Journey

Italy have participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since the very beginning and have always been considered a powerhouse in the contest. Italy have won the contest on three occasions in 1964, 1990 and 2021. Italy withdrew after 1997, returning again in 2011 with Raphael Gualazzi who sang ‘Madness Of Love’. Raphael placed second in the 2011 Eurovison Song Contest after scoring 189 points.

Italy’s most recent entry in 2023 was “Due Vite” by Marco Mengoni. At the close of voting, Italy scored a total of 350 points in the Eurovision 2023 Grand Final, placing 4th. Of these, 176 points came from the juries, whilst the remaining 174 points came from the televote.
