🇸🇪 Jacqline: “Do the right thing for humanity and take care of each other”

By Tim J Feb 16, 2024

Sweden is continuing their national selection Melodifestivalen on Saturday. As the artists prepare for the third semi-final to take place on Saturday, February 17th, Tim speaks to Jacqline. She is vying to represent Sweden in Eurovision with her entry “Effortless”

Hi Jacqline, I would just like to start things off by asking you what is the one unique thing about yourself that not many people know about?

My man looks like a Greek God. Kidding, but not, I like Caviar.

We’ll start by getting to know you a bit more. Are you able to please give us a short
introduction of yourself
.

It will take one hour actually… maybe you are starting to know me now, I’m kinda of funny, right? I have a sense of humour, and I greet dogs on the street.

How does it feel to be in the running to represent Sweden at Eurovision 2024?
Melodifestivalen 2024

I’m here because I love my song, and to spread hope and put on the best performance possible. I don’t cash out any wins in advance, so it’s not something I’ve thought about at the moment.

The first question I will ask about Eurosong is your entry “Effortless”. What was your
personal experience like recording the song, and telling us in your own words the
message of your entry.

It’s a love song that I had a very fun time recording.

Looking through the people who have worked on the song, you have Jimmy Jansson
Thomas G:son, Cazzi Opeia all of whom had a part in the Eurovision 2023 winning
entry “Tattoo”, what was it like working with them on the entry?

I love all of them, super humble and talented people.

We are a few days away from your participation, how are the preparations
going for your performance?

I’m in the rehearsal studio almost every day, singing and dancing.

Is there anything you can tell us about what we can expect from your performance?

Let’s just say, that I won’t be sitting on a chair singing 😂

Before participating in Mello, you’ve also done Idol, do you have a favourite performance from your participation?

Hmmm.. It must be “industry-baby” in Aviici Arena.

When we see you perform on stage, what message would you like to send to the
viewers who will be watching your performance.

That everybody can do it with a strong will. Don’t be afraid to go after your dreams.

I wanted to ask you, Sweden is hosting this year’s competition. What would it mean
to you if Sweden selects you as their representative for Malmö.

I’m here because I love my song, and to spread hope and put on the best performance possible. I don’t cash out any wins in advance, so it’s not something I’ve thought about at the moment.

Looking ahead, what can we expect from Jacqline after Mello? – I’ve seen you have
released a couple of singles already, can we expect more music?

Of course, I have a valve full of music that is waiting to be released. Put pressure on my A&R haha.

Finally, my last question for you is, looking through the preparations you’ve had, what
is the one thing you have learnt from taking part in Melodifestivalen, that you’ll take
with you, regardless of the result.

We’ll just have to wait and see, to be honest. But obviously the experience.

Thank you for this opportunity, Is there anything you would like to say to the readers
over at That Eurovision Site?

Yes, I do. Do the right thing for humanity and take care of each other

Who Is Jacqline?

Jacqline got her big break in 2021, when she competed in the sevententh edition of Idol, where she placed runner-up in the competition. Since Idol, Jacqline has worked on new music in London, and performed in numerous venues. She will be making her debut Melodifestivalen in 2024, with her entry “Effortless”, which she co-wrote alongside Cazzi Opeia, Thomas G:son , Jimmy Jansson , and Dino Medanhodzic.

Sweden’s Eurovision Journey

In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).

In 2023, Loreen returned to represent Sweden, who won the 2012 edition of the competition. She competed with the song “Tattoo”, which managed to qualify for the Grand Final, and placed 1st with 583 points. Loreen won the jury vote, accruing 340 points from the jury, earning an additional 243 points from the televote. This now means Sweden matches Ireland for the record of most wins in Eurovision history.
