What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2024 ?
Kittens (“The Chase (Zoom, Zoom)”): Out of all the songs at DMGP this was the one that caught my attention. Tonnes of attitude and and that build that kicks up the pace a notch over and over again! Really reminds me of something that would be on a Dance Dance Revolution machine in your local arcade, and I’d be on it and punching the air at the zoom zoom bits every time.
Jazzi (“SAND”): This is definitely the most likely to see the Eurovision final in Malmö in my opinion. This is upbeat and enjoyable when I listen to it. This has a good drop as well in the chorus, and is definitely something I could see myself dancing along to at any Eurovision events
Lewis (“Real Love”): I find this entry by RoseeLu so catchy! Yes, it is incredibly standard radio friendly pop and usually in Eurovision that does nothing for me personally, but theres something about RoseeLu’s vocal that elevates this particular entry. The angelic undertones in the first verse, the delicacy in the bridge! A solid overall entry by RoseeLu that I’d be more than happy seeing in Malmö!
Denmark’s Eurovision Journey
Denmark first participated in the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1957 and notched up their first win in 1963 with Grethe and Jørgan Ingmann’s “Dansevise”. Denmark later earned two third-place finishes in 1988 and 1989 but was then relegated three times in 1994, 1996, and 1998. They finally achieved their second victory in 2000 with the Olsen Brothers’ “Fly on the Wings of Love”, and have missed the Grand Final seven times since the introduction of the semi-finals. A six-year qualification streak from 2008 culminated in its third win in 2013 with Emmelie de Forrest’s “Only Teardrops”.
Denmark’s most recent participation saw them being represented by Reiley with the song “Breaking My Heart”. After opening the second semi-final in Liverpool, Reiley finished in 14th place receiving just 6 points from the televote.
