Serbia’s national final, Pesma za Evroviziju, kicks off this week, and the artists are getting ready. Ahead of the first semi-final, Jonathan sat down with M.IRA, who will be performing on Tuesday with her song ‘Percepcija‘.

Together, M.IRA and Jonathan discussed her musical journey, her artistry, her love for Eurovision and Balkan music. They also discussed Pesma za Eurovizija, and M.IRA’s favourite songs from this year, as well as the role her family plays in helping her develop as an artist.

About M.IRA

M.IRA is an up and coming artist from Belgrade, Serbia. She began writing music during the Coronavirus lockdown, and has been releasing music since 2021. Prior to that, her training was in Architecture, and she has worked in an Architecture firm. She sings primarily in Serbian, and has so far released 5 songs, of which Percepcija is the fifth.

Serbia’s Eurovision Journey

In 2007, Serbia made its debut as an independent country, having previously participated as part of Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro. There, they were represented by Marija Ε erifoviΔ‡ with β€œMolitva”, which won the competition in Serbia’s first year competing.

Since their debut, Serbia has participated 15 times–12 of which they qualified for the Grand Final. Luke Black represented Serbia at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool with his song β€œSamo mi se spava”. At this year’s competition, Serbia qualified for the Grand Final, where they placed 24th. At the close of voting, Luke Black had received 30 points – 14 coming from the jury and 16 from the televote.
