What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from the first Semi-Final of Pesma Za Evroviziju 2024?

Rory (“Lik u ogledalu”): Looking back on Zorja’s last attempt at going to Eurovision, I was wondering whether or not her newest go at representing Serbia would live up to my expectations. Boy, was I stupid to underestimate her! This is really impactful and packs a huge chorus and epic climax, with her flying vocals the star of the show. There really isn’t another song in this selection like “Lik u ogledalu” – and I, for one, think that can only work in its favour!

Kittens (“Jaka”): While this starts off unassuming, when the beat kicks in it’s so much BASS and power it’s hard to resist. Love a song with a bit of contrast and a good kick, and the piano house nods in the chorus are a nice touch – going straight onto the playlist for me!

Jazzi (“Dijamanti”): This is a nice Little Rock-entry, with electronic elements mixed in. This reminds me a little of the rock entries that you would see in Sanremo, and that’s not a bad thing I enjoy these types of songs. The song builds to the choruses really nicely and the song becomes more upbeat as it goes. The electronic elements make this not just something you could rock out to but also something you can dance along to, which there isn’t far you can go wrong with for me.

Serbia’s Eurovision Journey

In 2007, Serbia made its debut as an independent country, having previously participated as part of Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro. There, they were represented by Marija Šerifović with “Molitva”, which managed to win the competition. Since their debut, Serbia has participated 15 times (12 of which, where they qualified for the Grand Final).

Luke Black represented Serbia at Eurovision 2023 in Liverpool with his song “Samo mi se spava”. At this year’s competition, Serbia managed to qualify for the Grand Final, where they placed 24th. At the close of voting, he received 30 points – 14 coming from the jury and 16 from the televote.
