As we now have the songs competing for this year’s competition in Malmö, the team at That Eurovision Site will be reacting to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2024. The next entry we will be reacting to is Belgium, who will be competing in this year’s competition with “Before the Party’s Over” by Mustii.
Our thoughts on “Before the Party’s Over”
In this series, we will be providing our opinions in two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three other members will be giving their written opinion on the entry. Tim will be on the main seat and will be giving his reaction to “Before the Party’s Over”
What did the other members of the team think of “Before the Party’s Over”?
Jazzi : There is a lot of buzz about this and I can say I can see why! Mustii’s vocals sound so good in the studio cut of this, I really hope he can pull this off live. The last minute of this song is where it really excels, the hook is memorable while being very strong vocally. Providing this is staged correctly and Mustii’s vocals are on point I can see this scoring big with the juries in May. I do have concerns how a song like this will connect with Televoters so it is paramount they nail the stage show of this to maximise the oozes of potential this has.
Daniel: We might be looking at the jury winner. This sounds like something you’d hear in a James Bond film, The bridge and chorus especially are absolutely epic, and could be a huge moment if staged properly. I do however think the other parts of the song are fairly weak in comparison. I think that in May we could possibly see a result similar to Austria 2018, soaring with the juries but not quite reaching the same heights with televoters.
Kittens : This kind of epic song wouldn’t normally be in my top 10 but it has absolutely won me over. I love the way it builds and builds and given the right staging I can’t see it not grabbing the attention it commands by the end. I worry that it doesn’t get there quickly enough, with the earlier parts of the song being weaker, but the payoff by the end is just so big that hopefully it’ll convert those who might have initially doubted it. If the staging and vocals can deliver I feel like we might have a jury fave on our hands.

Belgium’s Eurovision Journey
Belgium was one of the debutant countries at the beginning of the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956. For the first edition, countries could submit two songs, and for Belgium that year, ‘Messieurs les noyes de la Seine’ by Fud Leclerc and ‘Le plus beau jour de ma vie’ by Mony Marc represented the nation. To this day we do not know the final results of Eurovision 1956. Belgium have taken part in 64 Eurovision Song Contests; however they have only ever won once – in 1986 with Sandra Kim singing the song ‘J’amie la vie’, scoring 176 points.
In 2023, Gustaph represented Belgium with the song “Because of You”. Gustaph qualified from the second semi-final, eventually finishing in 7th place with a total of 182 points. The juries awarded Belgium 127 points, whilst the televote gave 55 points to the performance.
