While we’re in the midst of Eurovision 2024, the preparations for the 2025 season begin. After a year’s absence, Belgium’s national final Eurosong will return in 2025.

What to Expect

In an interview with Songfestival.be, Flemish commentator Peter Van de Veire confirmed that the national final will make a return next year. Van de Veire will also host the show and promises that “we’ll end up with a big show”. In 2023, Flemish broadcaster VRT chose Gustaph, who ended up in the top 10 in Liverpool with “Because of You”. This year, Belgian French broadcaster RTBF internally selected Mustii, who will perform “Before The Party’s Over” at tomorrow’s second semi-final.

‘Ik heb nieuws voor je. Wij gaan opnieuw een editie van Eurosong organiseren. De vorige keer heeft dit geloond, we hebben een unieke winnaar gehad. Het was een fijne formule en Gustaph heeft een Europese carrière gekregen.’

‘I have news for you. We are going to organize another edition of Eurosong . This paid off last time, we had a unique winner. It was a nice formula and Gustaph has had a European career.’

Belgium’s Eurovision History

Belgium was one of the debutant countries at the beginning of the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956. For the first edition, countries could submit two songs, and for Belgium that year, ‘Messieurs les noyes de la Seine’ by Fud Leclerc and ‘Le plus beau jour de ma vie’ by Mony Marc represented the nation. To this day we do not know the final results of Eurovision 1956. Belgium have taken part in 64 Eurovision Song Contests; however they have only ever won once – in 1986 with Sandra Kim singing the song ‘J’amie la vie’, scoring 176 points.

In 2023, Gustaph represented Belgium with the song “Because of You”. Gustaph qualified from the second semi-final, eventually finishing in 7th place with a total of 182 points. The juries awarded Belgium 127 points, whilst the televote gave 55 points to the performance.
