The Canton of Basel has approved funding for the 2025 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, paving the way the city to host next year’s contest.
Overwhelming support for Basel’s budget
Earlier today the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel (the legislature of the federal unit the city resides in) approved funding for the contest. The motion for its budget passed overwhelming, with only 4 legislators opposing, with 87 approving the funding. The Canton approved a funding of 37.46 million Swiss Francs, with the expectation of receiving around 2.5 million Franc back in revenue from hosting.

Switzerland will be hosting the 69th edition of the competition following Nemo’s historic win at Eurovision 2The Canton of Basel has approved funding for the 2025 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, paving the way the city to host next year’s contest.024 in Malmö. A few weeks after their win, Reto Peritz, and Moritz Stadler, was announced as the Executive Producers, with the other roles revealed in July 2024.
Basel, Bern & Biel/Bienne, Geneva, and Zurich submitted bids to host next year’s competition, with Basel and Geneva being shortlisted as the final two cities. After the shortlist, it was revealed that Basel will host Eurovision 2025, at St. Jakobshalle with the shows taking place on May 13, 15 and 17.
