As we commence the Eurovision 2025 season, more and more countries are confirming their intention to participate in Basel. The next country to confirm their participation is Ireland, who will be making their 58th participation in 2025.

Submissions open until 18th of November

With the confirmation of their participation, RTÉ has now opened the submissions in the search for Bambie Thug’s successor, after they finished sixth in Malmö. The broadcaster hopes for accomplished songwriters with a proven track record of success in the industry to submit an entry.

The submitted entries would then be evaluated by a panel of music and entertainment industry professionals and Eurovision fans selected by RTÉ. They may invite some performers to audition in the RTÉ studios in Dublin.

Once selected, the shortlisted artists and their entries will then be invited to perform on television in early 2025. As of the time of writing, RTÉ has not confirmed the specifics mechanics of the selection.

Interested artists can now submit their submissions (which must be the final product). The submission period will close at 18:00 local time on Monday the 18th of November 2024.

Ireland’s Eurovision Journey

In 1965, Ireland made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with Butch Moore and the song “Walking the Streets in the Rain”, which managed to place 6th. Since their debut, Ireland has participated 57 times and made the Grand Final 46 times. They won the competition seven times, which is currently the record for most wins, tied with Sweden.

Bambie Thug was Ireland’s latest Eurovision participant, who represented them with their song “Doomsday Blue”. They placed 6th in the Grand Final, receiving 278 points in total, 138 of which were from televoters and 142 were from the national juries. This is Ireland’s best result in the 21st century.
