Belgian newspaper Het Laatste Nieuws has reported 5 names that they believe will be amongst the 8 competing to represent Belgium at Eurovision 2025.

Former Hooverphonic vocalist amongst rumoured participants

The first rumoured participant is Jelle Van Dael, who rose to fame in 2008 after winning a TV talent show to become the new face of the electronic music group Lasgo. Following Lasgo’s since hiatus starting in 2018, she embarked on a solo career that continues to this day. Her most recent release Just to Be Loved came out in August of this year.

Lisa “LEEZ” Van Rossem comes from a musical family – her brother is best known in music circles as the Flemish chart topper Metejoor, but he owes it all to her, having met the producer Hans Francken when she entered The Voice van Vlaanderen in 2016. Since then, Van Rossem has regularly performed alongside her brother on stage. She adopted the LEEZ moniker in 2023 to accompany the release of her single ‘Who Will Be There? (it’s me)’.

Seppe Herreman is no stranger to competitions, having first appeared on Belgium’s Got Talent aged 14 in 2013, making it to the final of the competition.

He took some time after this to discover himself, and studied Pop Vocals at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent. The artist Red Sebastian was born in 2021, and he has steadily been releasing music under the identity since, including an Album and EP. He returned to the talent show world earlier this year, going on to win the Flemish show Sing Again, which spotlights those who missed out on stardom at the first attempt.

Fans of Belgium’s 2020/2021 representatives Hooverphonic may recognise the name Noémie Wolfs, who was a vocalist for the band between 2010 and 2015. A vastly experienced artist, she’s released a total of seven albums throughout her career, three of which came after her going solo.

Born in Amsterdam but raised in a Congolese family in Belgium, Grace Khuabi, known mononymously as Grace, is best known for winning the 2021 edition of The Voice van Vlandeeren. Her music takes inspiration from her Congolese roots, and she released the Anglo-French track ‘Monsieur Mystérieux’ earlier this year.

About Eurosong

Eurosong is a selection method that has been used on and off in Belgium throughout their participation in the contest. In recent years its usage has been more sporadic. The selection nowadays is usually used solely by the Flemish speaking broadcaster VRT but has in the past been used by both. Eurosong in its name however. was first used in 1959. The layout of the national selection has changed many times over the years and does not have a consistent format. This year, VRT opted against having an open submissions system for the selection, instead inviting selected artists.

French speaking broadcaster RTBF has solely used an internal selection to select their entry since 2015. VRT used a selection right up until 2016, however in 2018, 2020 and 2021 they too opted for an internal selection. Traditionally since 2001, VRT take the reins for the contest every other year, this was traditionally in years that ended with an even number, until the Covid 19 pandemic hit and it changed to odd numbers.

Belgium’s Eurovision Journey

Belgium was one of the debutant countries at the beginning of the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956. For the first edition, countries could submit two songs, and for Belgium that year, ‘Messieurs les noyes de la Seine’ by Fud Leclerc and ‘Le plus beau jour de ma vie’ by Mony Marc represented the nation. To this day we do not know the final results of Eurovision 1956. Belgium have taken part in 64 Eurovision Song Contests; however, they have only ever won once: in 1986 with Sandra Kim and the song ‘J’amie la vie’, scoring 176 points.

Following an impressive seventh place in 2023, Belgium chose Mustii to represent them with “Before The Party’s Over” in 2024. Mustii scored eighteen points in the second semifinal, placing thirteenth.
