Originally slated for January 29th, Greece’s return to a national final format for Eurovision has been postponed by one day, confirmed by OGAE Greece. Their unnamed national selection will be held at the Christmas Theater in Galatsi, Athens.
Greece’s national final – more details
According to details collected by OGAE Greece and published on DIAVGEIA by ERT, the venue has been reserved for three days. The show will take place on January 30th, while the 28th and 29th will be rehearsal dates for the 12 as-yet-unannounced finalists. The finalist selection is anticipated to be announced soon and was done by a professional jury, the names of whom will be released after the final show. The presenters have not yet been confirmed either.
187 songs were submitted to ERT for consideration. The final result will consist of 50% public vote, 25% Greek jury, and 25% international jury.
Greece’s Eurovision journey
In 1974, Greece made its debut to the Eurovision Song Contest with “Krasi, thalassa ke t’agori mou” which placed 11th. Since then they have participated on 44 occasions (41 of which made the Grand Final), and have won once, in 2005.
Greece’s most recent Eurovision participation sent Marina Satti and the song “Zari”. Following her performance, Greece qualified for the Grand Final, finishing in 11th place in the Grand Final in Malmö. She earned a total of 126 points, 41 from the national juries and 85 from the televoters.
