As the songs competing for this year’s competition in Basel continue to be selected, the team at That Eurovision Site will react to the entries that will be participating at Eurovision 2025. The next entry we will react to is Luxembourg, which will be competing in this year’s competition with “La Poupée Monte Le Son” by Laura Thorn.
Our thoughts on “La Poupée Monte Le Son”
In this series, we will provide our opinions via two methods. One of our team members will be reacting on video, which you can see below, whilst up to three members will give their written opinion on the entry. Tim will be on the main seat and will be showing his reaction to “La Poupée Monte Le Son”
What did the other team members think of “La Poupée Monte Le Son”?
Max: It was great to see this performed live in Luxembourg and feel the energy Laura brought out in the crowd! As we have continued through national final season, this song slipped off my radar slightly. However, when it pops up in rotation on my Eurovision playlist, I rarely skip it and find the catchy melody gets stuck in my head. It still stands out and brings something different to this year’s contest.
I’m pleased Luxembourg are sending something in French and enjoy the homage to France Gall’s winning song for the country. I think the live performance needs the costume change and shake-up in production to keep it interesting and am looking forward to the revamp to see how they can keep us even more engaged for the three minutes.
Shiloh: It’s certainly catchy and you can tell that this song is from an era deeply influenced by the Barbie movie. Despite having been out of the contest for thirty-plus years, Luxembourg has clearly been keeping up with Eurovision, because this has several hallmarks of iconic performances past. However, I wonder if the song truly has the oomph to stand out in a 2025 characterized by televote heavy hitters.
Molly: I enjoyed the song overall; how it revamped the original and made it more modern was something I had never heard of before within the contest. Her vocals were a standout and I think if the performance is kept at the same quality then I feel that it will definitely qualify. It’s unique from the current lineup of songs and is one that will stay within my playlist of songs. I think Laura has a lot of charisma and stage presence that is shown and helps elevate my enjoyment of the song and the overall package it presents.

Luxmebourg’s Eurovision Journey
Luxembourg first made its debut in the first edition of the Contest in 1956, with their first entries being “Ne crois pas” and “Les Amants de minuit”, both performed by Michèle Arnaud. Since the first Contest, Luxembourg has competed a total of 38 times. Their best result was finishing in 1st place five times – in 1961, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1983 respectively.
Luxembourg returned to the contest for the first time in 31 years in 2024. Tali represented Luxembourg in Malmö, with the song “Fighter” bringing Luxembourg their first semifinal qualification–since they last participated before the semifinal system even existed! In the Grand Final, “Fighter” received 103 points: 83 from the national juries, and 20 from the televoters.
