RTL – the national broadcaster for Luxembourg – has confirmed that the country will be taking part in the upcoming edition of the Eurovision Song Contest. This comes as the country’s third consecutive Contest after they returned to the competition in 2024.
National selection to be held once again
In a press release on their website, RTL confirmed that Luxembourg would be coming back to the Contest in 2026. It comes after Luxembourg had confirmed that they were in discussions to compete in the Contest, with funding being decided for the competition.
The press release celebrated the result that Laura Thorn scored in Basel – who managed to score a second qualification in a row after coming back to the competition in 2024. RTL then revealed further details regarding how the artist for Austria will be selected.
A national final will once again be held at the Rockhal in Esch-sur-Alzette. The national final – the Luxembourg Song Contest – which is funded and broadcast by RTL will be broadcast at a later date. Further details specifically on how to submit interest in competing will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Luxembourg’s Eurovision journey
Luxembourg first made its debut in the first edition of the Contest in 1956, with their first entries being “Ne crois pas” and “Les Amants de minuit”, both performed by Michรจle Arnaud. Since the first Contest, Luxembourg has competed a total of 38 times. Their best result was finishing in 1st place five times – in 1961, 1965, 1972, 1973 and 1983 respectively.
Luxembourg’s latest participation came in Basel in 2025. Laura Thorn represented Luxembourg with the song “La poupรฉe monte le son”, qualifying in seventh place. In the Grand Final, Luxembourg finished 22nd, receiving 47 points: 23 from the national juries, and 24 from the televoters.
