Before September 1st hits, and we get sucked into a new Eurovision season, we wanted to take the opportunity to give our readers a chance to get to know our team a bit better. There’s no other way to do this other than to do a series where we introduce ourselves. In this part, it is the turn of Video Editor, Oliver.
Hey! Oliver here – I’m a journalist, born and bred in the UK. I’ve lived all over the North of England and have a love for radio. One of my first memories was listening to the BBC Radio 2 pop-up Eurovision station and I’ve loved the content for absolute years!
Name: Oliver Morgan (Oli, Olly, Oliver – I’ve been called them all)
Age: 25
Pronouns: He/him

How did I get into the Eurovision Song Contest?
I’ll let you cast your mind back to when you first got into the contest, because that’s what it was for me. It was 2010, Azerbaijan, and as a ten-year-old, I had absolutely no idea where that place was in the world – let alone what this competition was all about. So, it was the first song, and it was Engelbert Humperdinck and his track for the UK. Now, we didn’t do very well (25th) but as a kid, it wasn’t at all about that for me – it was my first glimpse into people’s different worlds, the different countries where people live, and their different cultures which I was yet to explore.
What point did I consider myself as a “Eurofan”?
So, that was 2010, and it wasn’t many years which went by that I remember wanting *ALL* of the merch. I’d scour for hours on the Eurovision Song Contest’s website for the cool stuff you could buy, and I think the two contests which stood out to me during my childhood were 2012 and 2014. They were just suuuuch fun, and I knew I wanted to get involved with it.
How has my life changed since becoming a Eurofan?
100% it’s the cultural aspect for me, and my exploration of that has fully been through the music. Not just the music of the Eurovision Song Contest itself, but also the artists’ other songs, and then other songs by other artists in these countries, and the TV shows that may or may not be on Netflix… It’s just made me become a more worldly person!
What are my favourite Eurovision songs and countries?
I’m a journalist and I have to be fair and balanced to all countries… However, for me, I have always had a soft spot for Switzerland (Hunter of Stars anyone?!) – with other honourable mentions including the powerhouse of San Marino for clinching Flo Rida, Italy for just being icons, and Cyprus for its FIRE!
…As a Brit, we’ve also got to love a bit of Irish charm too 😉
If I *had* to choose five songs (what a cruel question!), I’m actually just going to give you my five favourites the 2014 contest – because that – alone – was an iconic year:
- 🇦🇲 Armenia (2014) Aram MP3 with “Not Alone” – remember Aram MP3?!
- 🇳🇴 Norway (2014) Carl Espen with “Silent Storm”
- 🇬🇧 United Kingdom (2014) Molly with “Children of the Universe” – Molly was SO underrated
- 🇲🇹 Malta (2014) FireLight with “Coming Home”
- 🇫🇷 France (2014) Twin Twin with “Moustache” – I LOVED “Moustache” from France’s Twin Twin because it was absolutely bonkers!
What are my favourite National Final songs?
Can I say ‘Peace Peace Love Love’? How about ‘Ja Ja Ding Dong’? Of course one of those in the Netflix film made it all the way to the Final! But it’s such a tricky one. Seeing all of the interviews last year that TES made, it’s clear just how so much energy and love is poured into each track. It’s cruel to see such bangers not make it through! But here’s my Top 5…
- 🇳🇴 Farida with “Heartache” (Melodi Grand Prix 2024 – Norway)
- 🇩🇰 Andreas Kruse with “Hear My Prayer” (Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 2025 – Denmark)
- 🇪🇸 JK Bello with “VIP” (Benidorm Fest 2025 – Spain)
- 🇸🇪 THEOZ with “Mer Av Dig” (Melodifestivalen 2023 – Sweden)
- 🇮🇸 Sigga Ózk with “Gleyma þér og dansa” (Söngvakeppnin 2023 – Iceland)
What are you looking forward to in the next Eurovision season?
It’s going to be another interesting one isn’t it! I’m looking forward to the chaos, the great music, the acts trying their best to break through the noise, the artists we’re yet to hear – and all of the fun that this all brings!
