Before September 1st hits, and we get sucked into a new Eurovision season, we wanted to take the opportunity to give our readers a chance to get to know our team a bit better.

There’s no other way to do this other than to do a series where we introduce ourselves. In this part, it is the turn of the Social Media Coordinator,Tetiana.

Hi Eurofans! Tetiana here – I’m a support team lead and a photographer from Ukraine. I have always lived by the Black sea shore and worked as a teacher when I was younger. At a young age I saw my first ever ESC on TV and enjoyed it so much that I enrolled into a musical school to also be able to sing and play instruments. I met all my best friends through #ESC fandom.

How did I get into the Eurovision Song Contest?

The first time Ukraine took part in Eurovision (2003 in Latvia) was my first time watching the final. I didn’t understand that it was a big and diverse competition, but I instantly fell in love with the winner, Sertab Erener. Perhaps I was a pop girlie at the age of 8 so I couldn’t stop vibing to it until the next year. The Eurovision fans surely know that Ukraine won in 2004 and I realised, yep, that’s it, the contest is now the love of my life.

What point did I consider myself as a “Eurofan”?

Probably at the age of 14 when I started collecting memes and magazine pictures related to ESC artists and even bought a CD with all contest songs. Probably pirated. I don’t even remember where I got it from.

How has my life changed since becoming a Eurofan?

A lot, actually! Although I didn’t have any Eurovision friends back then, I felt like I belong somewhere. I started participating in #OGAE activities, won the Eurovision radio contest in 2015. I even saw Jamala perform live from my balcony in the center of the city at some local festival. As the time passed, I ended up going to more concerts and one on them was a sold-out Joker out show at Arena Stožice in Ljubljana, Slovenia. When time came for their famous karaoke song Umazane Misli (Dirty mind), Bojan gave me his mike and I sang the chorus part. Now all my friends and euro fellas can listen to me singing on vinyl and streaming platforms. The recent few years were full of chaotic and iconic events and one of them being Jan Peteh of Joker out wearing a T-shirt I gifted him on stage. In between the shows and travels I learned 2 new languages (Serbian and Slovenian), took up on photography and now just wondering where this adventure is gonna lead me.

What are my favourite Eurovision songs and countries?

I can’t say I stanned a particular country at any point of the time, I am drawn to the music in the first place. A song should make me feel something. If it does, I focus on the country of representation. I explore its current music scene in depth. But I do in fact stan a year of 2016: it was the best year ever to me. I adore all of the songs.

If I were to choose five songs only, they would be the following:

What are my favourite National Final songs?

Not all bangers make it to the Eurovision semis, but they should never be skipped. My top 5 below:

What are you looking forward to in the next Eurovision season?

Definitely expecting a lot of original artists bringing their new and captivating energy to the social media. Hoping to discover new artists I have never heard of and enjoy exploring their discography. I am also looking forward to seeing the Vidbir shortlist: literary no idea who is gonna try reach the Grand final representing Ukraine in 2026.
