While we wait to find out the official results, members of the TES team will be sharing their votes for this year and explaining the reason for their picks. This time, it’s George’s turn to reveal how he voted.
George’s votes
Although I knew about the ESC250 vote, I had never created my own Top 10 before. It was a difficult task, as I had to choose between several Eurovision bops and timeless Eurovision classics. Still, I believe I managed to come up with a solid Top 10. I tried to be as objective as possible, so I hope you enjoy it!
1 point: “Zitti E Buoni” – Måneskin (🇮🇹 Italy 2021)
“Zitti e Buoni” simply could not be left out of the Top 10. I believe it is one of the best rock songs ever to compete in Eurovision, and it undeniably shook up the Eurovision scene.
2 points: “Only Teardrops” – Emmelie de Forest (🇩🇰 Denmark 2013)
“Only Teardrops” remains one of Eurovision’s most timeless winners. With its simple yet powerful melody and emotional delivery, it stood out for its authenticity and sincerity. The song may not rely on spectacle, but its message and atmosphere have allowed it to age beautifully over the years.
3 points: “In Corpore Sano” – Konstrakta (🇷🇸 Serbia 2022)
“In Corpore Sano” was one of the most thought-provoking entries Eurovision has ever seen. Its minimalist staging and satirical lyrics turned the performance into a social commentary rather than a typical song.
I still remember myself wanting that song to get a high placement, and luckily it got.
4 points: “Nocturne” – Secret Garden (🇳🇴 Norway 1995)
“Nocturne” is a Eurovision classic. With its minimal lyrics and dominant instrumental presence, it blurred the lines between song and composition. Its calm, atmospheric beauty proved that emotion and artistry can speak louder than words on the Eurovision stage.
5 points: “Dancing Lasha Tumbai” – Verka Serduchka (🇺🇦 Ukraine 2007)
“Dancing Lasha Tumbai” remains one of the most iconic and unforgettable Eurovision performances of all time. Everyone has danced to this song, and if you are a true Eurovision fan, you have probably cried because it didn’t win back in 2007. Its infectious energy, absurd humour, and instantly recognisable hook turned it into a cultural phenomenon.
6 points: “Shake it” – Sakis Rouvas (🇬🇷 Greece 2004)
“Shake It” was a defining moment for Greece at Eurovision. With its infectious pop sound and confident stage presence, it helped modernise Greece’s image in the contest. The song remains a fan favourite and played a key role in paving the way for Greece’s future Eurovision success.
7 points: “Euphoria” – Loreen (🇸🇪 Sweden 2012)
“Euphoria” is widely regarded as one of the greatest Eurovision songs of all time. Its minimalist staging, emotional intensity and contemporary electronic sound set a new standard for the contest. More than a decade later, the song remains timeless and continues to influence Eurovision entries.
8 points: “Fuego” – Eleni Foureira (🇨🇾 Cyprus 2018)
“Fuego” marked a turning point for modern pop at Eurovision. With its explosive staging, strong choreography and undeniable charisma, it set the blueprint for contemporary Eurovision pop performances. The song’s impact can still be felt today, as it redefined what a competitive pop entry could look like on the Eurovision stage.
10 points: “Cha Cha Cha” – Käärijä (🇫🇮 Finland 2023)
“Cha Cha Cha” was one of the most explosive and unconventional entries Eurovision has ever seen. Also, a turning point for Eurovision entries. Its impact went far beyond the scoreboard, turning it into a fan phenomenon and one of the most memorable modern Eurovision songs.
