Ahead of her participation in Melodifestivalen 2026, Sweden’s selection for the Eurovision Song Contest, Tim had the opportunity to speak with Laila Adèle, who is returning to the competition with her song “Oxygen”.

During their interview, Tim and Laila talked about how it feels to return to the contest after 20 years and how she has changed as an artist during that time.

Who is Laila Adèle?

Laila Adèle is a singer born in Morocco and raised in Sweden. She has been releasing music since the early 2000’s and has also performed in musicals including Little Shop of Horrors, Hairspray and Dreamgirls.

Her first appearance in Melodifestivalen was in 2006 with her song “Don’t Try To Stop Me”, which was sadly eliminated from the competition. She returns to the contest 20 years later with her song “Oxygen”.

Sweden’s Eurovision journey

In 1958, Sweden made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest, with Alice Babs representing them with the song “Lilla stjärna” which placed fourth. Since their debut, the Scandinavian nation has managed to win seven times (1974, 1984, 1991, 1999, 2012, 2015 and 2023).

In 2025, Sweden were represented by Finnish group KAJ, singing “Bara bada bastu”. At the close of voting in the grand final, they had received 321 points, finishing in 4th place. 126 points were received by the juries, while the trio received 195 points by televoters.
