This week sees Eurovision 2023 star Mimicat release the emotional edit of “A Minha Gente”. The original version of the song was released back in April, and this new “Versão Emocional” takes an already beautifully emotional ballad to new heights. The song layers Mimicat’s stunning vocals on top of a simple piano line, and lets her talent shine. This is a truly stunning version of an already wonderful song from the “Ai Coração” singer, who never fails to amaze.

🇺🇦 KALUSH – “кропива”
KALUSH, two of the members of 2022’s Eurovision Song Contest winners Kalush Orchestra, are back with a new track. “кропива” sees Oleh Psiuk, Ihor Didenchuk and CarpetMan team up with musician Василем Білоусом (Vasily Bilousom). The group describe the song as their “first collaboration about feelings that can make your head spin, leave a mark, and give you a real sting. It’s got a touch of romance, a bit of irony, a lively vibe, and a chorus that might just get stuck in your head from the very first listen. So look to the left, look to the right – and turn on the Nettle!” And they are correct. The song has been stuck in my head from the moment I heard it.
🇫🇮 The Rasmus – “Forever Young”
Finland’s 2022 representatives The Rasmus have this week released a loud, metal cover of the world famous 1984 Alphaville synth-pop track “Forever Young”. Those of you who (like me) grew up on the Punk goes Pop compilation albums in the early 2010s will love this. This is pure pop-metal joy, and while possibly cheesy, The Rasmus sell this as a huge rock version of a well known track.
🇮🇹 BLANCO – “SOTTOGONNA”
Italian rapper and singer appeared at the Contest in Turin alongside Mahmood, on their joint host entry “Brividi” back in 2022. Despite Italy winning just one year previously, they finished in 6th place out of 25 entries in the Grand Final in Turin, with 268 points. The musician has made several appearances at Eurovision connected events in recent years, most notoriously during the 2023 Festival di Sanremo where he appeared as a guest, and destroyed the floral arrangements on stage after experiencing technical difficulties, resulting in media controversy and legal investigation in Italy. Pretty punk for a returning Eurovision artist to the Italian music festival! He received no legal punishment and later apologised, but the incident will forever exist in Sanremo legend. His latest single “SOTTOGONNA” is a great piece of electro-pop / rap from the musician, who is sure to keep making his mark on the Italian music scene. He has been rumoured to make a return to Sanremo in recent years – could we see him back in 2027?
🇳🇱 Edsilia Rombley – “Jij Was Bij Mij”
Edsilia Rombley is, simply put, a Dutch Eurovision legend. Having entered the Contest twice for the Netherlands, firstly in 1998, where she placed 4th in the Grand Final with “Hemel en Aarde”, and then again in 2007 with the song “On Top of the World”. Edsilia returned to the Contest as a jury spokesperson in 2015, wearing the dress that her sister-in-law, Trijntje Oosterhuis, the Dutch representative of that year’s Contest, had wore in her rehearsals. In 2020, after the Contest was cancelled due to Covid, she co-hosted Eurovision: Europe Shine a Light, the replacement broadcast for the cancelled contest. When Eurovision returned to the Rotterdam stage the following year, Edsilia co-hosted the show alongside Chantal Janzen, Jan Smit, and Nikkie de Jager.
The latest single to come from the Dutch Eurovision icon comes in the form of “Jij Was Bij Mij”. The song is reminiscent in style of her Eurovision debut, back in 1998, but with a modern soulful twist. This is really fun, and Edsilia proves she still has immense talent for song making.
🇩🇪 Malik Harris – “easy”
Malik Harris burst into the Eurovision sphere in 2022 with his song “Rockstars”. Unfortunately, the singer placed last in the Grand Final in Turin, but Malik has continued to write and record incredible pop-rock songs. Latest of which, “easy”, is an infectious dance-pop sound with a great rap breakdown midway through. The track follows the release of “make you mine” and “lie to me” earlier in the year. 2026 is shaping up to be a great year for Malik Harris.
🇧🇦 Hari Mata Hari – “Bore”
Hari Mata Hari gave Bosnia & Herzegovina their best ever placement at Eurovision with the song “Lejla” in 2006, placing third. Their entry for the 2006 Contest was written by Serbian Eurovision legend Željko Joksimović. Latest single from the Hari Varešanović fronted band comes in the form of “Bore”, a sultry Balkan banger.
🇸🇲(&🇮🇹) Achille Lauro (& 🇮🇹 Geolier) – “PER NOI”
Achille Lauro represented San Marino at the Eurovision Song Contest in Turin in 2022 with the punk-rock song “Stripper”. He had entered the Italian Festival di Sanremo that same year with a different song, but failed to make it to the Contest for his home nation of Italy and so entered the San Marinese selection. This week, he features on Geolier’s newest single, who himself has his own connections to the Contest. Geolier made his debut at the Sanremo Music Festival in 2024 with the track “I p’ me, tu p’ te”, which was the the first-ever song written entirely in the Neapolitan language to compete in Sanremo’s main tier. Geolier was a huge fan favourite in the 2024 festival, winning the public vote by a large margin, but missing out on the win to Angelina Mango, due in part to the lower votes than expected from the juries. The pair have teamed up on a new rap-ballad “PER NOI”
🇭🇺 AWS – “Pillanatom”
AWS are probably my favourite metal act to take part in Eurovision, and also one of my favourite Hungarian acts in the Contest’s history. The band won the Hungarian national selection show A Dal and represented Hungary at the Contest in Lisbon, in 2018. They placed 21st in the Grand Final with the huge metal hit “Viszlát nyár”, and have gone on to widespread success and admiration amongst metal fans across Europe. Latest single from the band, “Pillanatom”, is an excellent example of modern metal. The song was written and produced by the band themselves, and is exactly what I want from an AWS release.
🇧🇪 Hooverphonic – “Second Life”
Belgian band Hooverphonic were set to perform the song “Release Me” in Rotterdam, with singer Luka Cruysberghs who won The Voice of Flanders under the mentorship of Hooverphonic’s Alex Callier, before Covid forced the cancellation of the Contest. They were re-selected for the 2021 contest and performed “The Wrong Place”, with original lead singer of the band during the peak of their success Geike Arnaert rejoining the group for the Contest. They qualified for the Grand Final, ultimately finishing in 19th place with 74 points. With both Cruysberghs and Arnaert no longer part of the project, Hooverphonic have this week collaborated with Flemish musician Jasper Erkens on new electro-indie song “Second Life”.
🇱🇹 Vilija Matačiūnaitė – “Spjaudau gaudau (LIVE @ Kitokie pasikalbėjimai)”
Vilija represeted Lithuania at the 2014 Contest in Copenhagen with her song “Attention”. She narrowly missed out on a spot in the Grand Final, placing 11th in the Semi-Final. In the years since her Eurovision performance, Vilija has returned to the Lithuanian national selection, most recently in the 2024 edition, with the song “Save Me”. She has rebranded as simply ‘VILIJA’ in recent years, and latest release from the singer comes in the form of a live in concert recording of “Spjaudau gaudau”. The original version of the song was released back in 2006 on her album “Mylėk”.
🇳🇴 DJ ASTRONAUT (Subwoolfer) – “Rain”
Most people will remember the yellow wolves Keith and Jim from Subwoolfer (since confirmed as Ben Adams and Gaute Ormåsen), but perhaps fewer will remember the iconic third member of the Eurovision 2022 group – DJ ASTRONAUT. The DJ behind the iconic wolves has never been 100% confirmed. Some fans suggest it is DJ Martin Danielle, or that live performances feature a rotation of performers. A musician in their own right, official production credits and management details of recent DJ ASTRONAUT tracks, such as newly released single “Rain” as well as official remix of Emmy’s 2024 ESC entry “Laika Party”, tie the persona heavily to producer (and Subwoolfer collaborator) Carl-Henrik Wahl. So who is DJ ASTRONAUT? The mystery persists. But latest single “Rain” is a great soft-house / soft-edm track.
🇩🇪🇸🇪 Siw Malmkvist – “Min jord”
Siw Malmkvist is nothing short of an iconic piece of Eurovision and Melodifestivalen history, deserving of her place in the Melfest Hall of Fame. Having competed in the Eurovision Song Contest twice, representing two different countries, Sweden in 1960 and West Germany in 1969, Siw has appeared in Mello countless times as a performer, most recently making an appearance in the 2004 Melfest. She has also made appearances in the national selection as a guest and even as a host of the contest, back in 1996. In 2020, she was deservedly inducted into the Melodifestivalen Hall of Fame. This week, Malmkvist is back with a new song, a beautiful ballad in the form of “Min jord”, written by Pierre Delanoë.
🇧🇾 ALEKSEEV – “Кіт бандит бере кредит”
Ukrainian-born musician ALEKSEEV represented Belarus in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest in Lisbon. The singer performed his song “Forever” in the first of the Semi-Finals, but failed to qualify for the Grand Final. I don’t really know how to describe this one other than Ukrainian AI cats having a ball… just listen to it. It’s fun and quirky and… different.
🇬🇷🇨🇾 Anna Vissi – “Oxi Giati”
Anna Vissi has the rare accolade of having represented both Cyprus and Greece in the Eurovision Song Contest. The singer performed “Mono i agapi” for Cyprus at the Contest in Harrogate in 1982. She also performed “Autostop” in 1980 and “Everything” in 2006 for Greece. The latest single from Anna, “Obi Giati”, sees her once again collaborate with writer and composer Nikos Karvelas. This track is a Greek ballad, set to a euro-dance style bassline, with a rocky underpinning to it. It’s interesting, fresh and exciting from Anna.
🇦🇹 PAENDA – “Favorite Bad Idea”
Austria’s PAENDA has been incredibly busy with new music in recent months. The music producer, DJ and performer recently collaborated with fellow Eurovision 2019 alumni Darude on huge dance track “Feel The Beat”. The singer may have not made the final at the Contest in Tel Aviv, but PAENDA certainly knows how to keep making new hits. Latest new music from PAENDA comes as a featured artist on Austrian DJ Rene Rodriguezz’s big club banger “Favorite Bad Idea”.
