🇹🇷 Turkey holding talks about the Eurovision Song Contest

Even though there is still quite some time until we find out the number of countries participating in the 2022 Eurovision Song Contest, which is due to take place in Italy. However, there is one country that is in talks with the EBU about their participation at the Eurovision Song Contest, and that’s Turkey, which has not participated in the competition since 2012.

Turkey’s participation at the Eurovision Song Contest since 2013

Since 2013, Turkey has not participated in the Eurovision Song Contest. TRT has been asked, as to why the country withdrew from the competition and why they are not present anymore. Ali Eyuboglu from Milliyet, asked İbrahim Eren, the Director-General of TRT about an update, and he responded with the following:

TRT has taken a decision on this matter in the past; “We will not participate until the scoring system changes”. Our Board of Directors still continues with the same decision, but meanwhile, we are also meeting with ‘Eurovision (EBU).

In addition İbrahim Eren, complimented the way the competition, and they have not ruled out returning the competition in the future:

After a long time, they had a nice competition. Our friends started meeting with the newcomer (Executive Supervisor). I don’t know what will happen?”

Turkey’s Eurovision Journey

In 1975, Turkey made their debut in the competition with Semiha Yankı and the song “Seninle Bir Dakika”, which placed 19th. Since their participation, they have participated in the competition 34 times (appearing in the final for 33), and have won in 2003, with Sertab Erener and her song “Everyway That I Can”.

Turkey’s last appearance in the competition was in 2012, when the contest was held in Baku. Can Bonomo participated in the competition with the song “Love Me Back” which managed to go through to the Grand Final and finished 7th overall in the competition with 112 points.
