Blanca Paloma performing at Benidorm Fest 2023.

With Festival Da Canção coming closer, Portuguese broadcaster RTP is announcing more interval acts. Now, it has been revealed that Blanca Paloma – who will represent Spain in Liverpool – will perform as an interval act. She will perform during the first semi-final on the 25th of February. Blanca now joins former Eurovision acts Nicolas Alves and Salvador Sobral as guest performers during the selection.

Who is Blanca Paloma?

Blanca Paloma is the stage name of Blanca Paloma Ramos Baeza, a 33-year-old singer songwriter from Spain. Born in the Valencian town of Elche, Blanca moved to Madrid to pursue a career in musical theatre. Her signature genre of music is ‘new flamenco’, taking inspiration from the likes of former Eurovision alum Remedios Amaya. Blanca first came to prominence after performing in Benidorm Fest 2022 with her song ‘Secreto de Agua’. At the close of voting, she finished in 5th place with 61 points. She returned to Benidorm Fest in 2023 with her song ‘EAEA’ – which is written by Blanca herself, alongside José Pablo Polo and Álvaro Tato.

Portugal’s Eurovision Journey

Portugal debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest with António Calvário’s “Oração” in 1964. Since then, Portugal has participated in the competition 53 times – appearing the final 44 times. Their only win in the competition came in 2017 with Salvador Sobral, performing his heart-wrenching song “Amar Pelos Dois”.

Portugal’s most recent participation was with MARO with the song “saudade, saudade”. MARO managed to qualify for the Grand Final and once there, she finished 9th, after receiving 207 points from the jury and the televote.
