Over the weekend, Italian broadcaster RAI revealed the last four qualifiers for Sanremo Giovani 2023, scheduled to take place on December 19th.
Who are the qualifiers?
The process for Sanremo Giovani 2023 kicked off with 564 applications, which was whittled down to 49 auditions. From there, RAI revealed the first eight artists who made it through to the final of Sanremo Giovani. The final four members of the twelve artist final went through a separate process, as all are artists from the Sanremo area. These four artists and their song titles are:
- Dipinto – Criminali
- Fellow – Alieno
- Nausica – Favole
- Omini – Mare Forza 9oi
These twelve artists will take part in Sanremo Giovani 2023 on the 19th of December. There, the top three will advance to the main Festival di Sanremo, scheduled for the 6th to 10th of February 2024.
Italy’s Eurovision History
Italy has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since the very beginning and has always been considered a powerhouse in the contest. The country has won the contest on three occasions in 1964, 1990 and 2021. Italy withdrew after 1997, returning again in 2011 with Raphael Gualazzi who sang ‘Madness Of Love’. Raphael placed second in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest after scoring 189 points.
Italy’s most recent entry in 2023 was “Due Vite” by Marco Mengoni. At the close of voting, Italy scored a total of 350 points in the Eurovision 2023 Grand Final, placing 4th. Of these, 176 points came from the juries, whilst the remaining 174 points came from the televote.
