What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from the Semi-Final of Melodi Grand Prix 2024?
Kittens (My AI): If you’re going to dial up the humour, you should at least go all in, and what better way to do that than this silly camp bop complete with a giant pink robot. Even if you think this is a ‘joke entry’, you have to give it some credit – it is an unbelievably memorable tune with singalong vibes, and definitely has the chance to make a huge impact on the stage.
Daniel (Heartache): I was so excited to see Farida back in the MGP lineup as ‘Dangerous’ was one of my favourite songs from the 2022 NF season. This wasn’t what I would’ve expected from her, but I’m certainly not disappointed, she’s given us a fun up-tempo song with a catchy melody which is always a good thing.
Tim (You’re Mine): Why does the instrumentation on this remind me of “Me and My Broken Heart” by Rixton? I like the production of the track, and I think that it will translate well to a storytelling staging on the performance, I’m intrigued on how it will translate to the MGP stage this weekend.
Norway’s Eurovision Journey
The Scandinavian nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1960, with Nora Brockstedt and the song “Voi Voi”, which placed 4th. Since their debut, they have participated 61 times, and made the Grand Final 58 of these. In addition, Norway has won the competition three times – in 1985, 1995, and 2009.
Norway’s latest Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Alessandra with the song “Queen of Kings”. After qualifying for the final, Norway placed 5th in the Grand Final, receiving 268 points, 52 of which from the jury and 216 from televoters.
