What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from Eurosong 2024?

Rory (Go Tobann): Wow, what a song. Incredibly challenging and daring, and with lyrics that cut far deeper than the average song of this genre. ‘Go Tobann’ hits in a way that previous Irish songs just have missed, and it also represents an entirely new side of what could be represented as mainstream music from Ireland. From the use of Irish to the acid hyperpop composition, it has everything a Eurovision entry could be! Let’s switch things up!

Euan (Let Me Be The Fire): While some in this selection are overly noisy for the sake of it, ‘Let Me Be The Fire”s more subdued tone pairs well with Isabella’s vocals. Perhaps blurring the lines at times between classic throwback and dated, there is a solid hook in this entry that stays with you. The pipes are excellent addition to the track, and their sparing usage adds lasting memory to the chorus. All round a solidly okay entry and the one that deserves to win.

Tim (Love Me Like I Do): Okay, I am a sucker for a pop-banger and that is what Erica-Cody has delivered, it has that slight nostalgic feel in the production but can still fit in with today’s charts. It has the makings of a Eurovision song and if given the chance to represent Ireland, I think the team can pull something great.

Ireland’s Eurovision Journey

In 1965, Ireland made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with Butch Moore and the song “Walking the Streets in the Rain”, which managed to place 6th. Since their debut, Ireland has participated 56 times (making the Grand Final 45 times), and has won the competition seven times, which is currently tied for the record of most wins.

Ireland’s latest Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Wild Youth, with their song “We Are One”. They placed 12th in the semi-final, receiving 10 points from the televote, missing out on the Grand Final.
