Ireland is continuing its preparations for Eurosong 2024. As the artists gear up for the final on January 26th, Rory speaks to Bambie Thug. They are vying to represent Ireland in Malmö with their song “Doomsday Blue”.

Together, Rory and Bambie talk about their decision to take part in Eurosong and how the show can serve as a platform for queer performers. As well as this, the pair also discuss the change in traditional Irish music and the challenges of breaking through to a wider audience. They also gives recommendations for their other music if you enjoy “Doomsday Blue”.
About Bambie Thug
Bambie Thug is an up-and-coming alternative act from Cork in the south of Ireland. Now based in London, they blend various genres in their musical style to reflect their identity as a non-binary person. They have also performed tours across the UK, working with the likes of fellow alternative acts including Wargasm. Their song, “Doomsday Blue”, is written by themselves, together with Cassyette, Sam Matlock and Tyler Ryder.
Ireland’s Eurovision journey
In 1965, Ireland made their debut in the Eurovision Song Contest with Butch Moore and the song “Walking the Streets in the Rain”, which managed to place 6th. Since their debut, Ireland has participated 56 times (making the Grand Final 45 times), and has won the competition seven times, which is currently tied for the record of most wins.
Ireland’s latest Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Wild Youth, with their song “We Are One”. They placed 12th in the semi-final, receiving 10 points from the televote, missing out on the Grand Final.
