Over at That Eurovision Site the team will be ranking national finals throughout the season. The next national final that the team have taken a closer look at was Latvia’s Supernova. Specifically the semi-final, which will take place on February 3rd. Supernova will select the Eurovision representative for Latvia.
Who is taking part in the Semi-Final of Supernova 2024 ?

We ranked the songs taking part in this semi-final of Supernova, using a 1-15 ranking. 1 being our favourite, 15 being our least favourite song. We then calculated the average of all our rankings. Right below, you can see our qualifiers for this week’s show.

What did some of our team members have to say about their favourite songs from the Semi-Final of Supernova 2024?
Daniel (“The Cat’s Song”): Sometimes we follow this contest to hear genre diverse sounds from across the continent. Other times we want to hear a Latvian lady sing about a cat. It wouldn’t be national final season without a bit of harmless good fun, and also we all love cats
Kittens (“Mine”): A dark techno influenced banger with a high BPM? Sign me up. This feels like it has the potential to be a bit of a mess live but if performed right could be absolutely potent. I’m hoping for some close dark staging with clever camerawork, and no tripping over the very fast vocals, and a fabulous outfit to set this off in style.
Jazzi (Tick Tock): This has a very 00’s pop girlie feel, so I really enjoy this. There’s something about this that makes this quite dark as well that I also really like. I like the rap parts that also help modernise this. This is just a song that is right up my street.
Latvia’s Eurovision Journey
Latvia made their Eurovision debut in 2000, finishing 3rd with “My Star” by Brainstorm. They have performed at every contest since and managed to win in 2002. Marie N sang “I Wanna,” scoring 176 points and bringing Eurovision to Riga in the process. Latvia also managed to finish in the top 10 two more times, in 2005 and 2015.
Latvia’s most recent entry on the Eurovision stage was Sudden Lights, who performed “Aijā”. The song failed to qualify from the semi-final, finishing 11th with 34 points from the televote
