The EBU have announced that Spain will host Junior Eurovision 2024, after France Télévisions declined to host after France won the 2023 contest.

France Télévisions hand over hosting duties

The rules of Junior Eurovision do not require the winner to host, but France Télévisions won the first right of refusal to host the contest in 2024 after winning the contest on home soil in 2023, and have chosen to hand over hosting duties on this occasion.

As Spain and Sandra Valero finished second in Nice with “Loviu”, RTVE have been invited to be the host broadcaster. RTVE’s Junior Eurovision Head of Delegation, Ana María Bordas, said “RTVE welcomes with great enthusiasm EBU’s invitation for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2024 to be held in Spain.” Spain last hosted a Eurovision event in 1969, when they hosted Eurovision in Madrid.

More details revealed in due course.

Eurovision executive Martin Österdahl said: “20 years after their Junior Eurovision Song Contest win, we’re thrilled to finally bring the Contest to Spain. We’re grateful to RTVE for accepting to host the 22nd edition of the competition which gives young artists from across Europe an incredible platform to showcase their talent. We’re very much looking forward to the fiesta that awaits in Spain later this year!”

The EBU statement revealed that the Host City and dates for the 2024 Contest will be announced in due course.
