Mustii, who was announced to represent Belgium back in August of 2023, has revealed that he will be participating with “Before The Party’s Over”, in May, with the entry officially being revealed at Le 8/9 at around 08:40CET.
Belgium at Eurovision 2024
This year it’s Walloon broadcaster RTBF’s turn to organize Belgium’s Eurovision participation. All the way back in August of 2023, they announced that Mustii would represent them at this year’s contest. “Before The Party’s Over” includes a line sung by virtual choir of over 1,000 Eurovision fans from around the world; this approach, made possible by the EBU’s decision to allow prerecorded backing vocals in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, was most famously taken by DaΓ°i Freyr when he represented Iceland in 2021.
All about Mustii
Mustii is the stage name of Thomas Mustin, a Brussels native best known for judging Drag Race Belgique. He is also an actor and theatre performer, and released his first single as a pop artist in 2014. His two albums–21st Century Boy and It’s Happening Now–both made the top ten on the Belgian album charts.
Belgium’s Eurovision Journey
Belgium was one of the debutant countries at the beginning of the Eurovision Song Contest back in 1956. For the first edition, countries could submit two songs, and for Belgium that year, ‘Messieurs les noyes de la Seine’ by Fud Leclerc and ‘Le plus beau jour de ma vie’ by Mony Marc represented the nation. To this day we do not know the final results of Eurovision 1956. Belgium have taken part in 64 Eurovision Song Contests; however, they have only won once – in 1986 with Sandra Kim singing the song ‘J’amie la vie’, scoring 176 points.
In 2023, Gustaph represented Belgium with the song “Because of You”. Gustaph qualified from the second semi-final, eventually finishing in 7th place with a total of 182 points. The juries awarded Belgium 127 points, whilst the televote gave 55 points to the performance.
