Silia Kapsis was announced as Cyprus’ representative all the way back in September of 2023. She’s 17, born in Australia to a Cypriot father and Greek mother, and has been performing since she was four years old.
Silia kickstarted her music career when she was 12 years old with her single “Who Am I?”. In 2023 in the lead up to Eurovision, Silia then went on to release a further three singles entitled “No Boys Allowed”, “Disco Dancer” and “Night Out”. Silia has also been the lead singer at the Australian Youth Performing Arts Company, which holds events all over Sydney.
“Liar” was written by Eurovision hitmaker Dimitris Kontopoulos, alongside Elke Tiel. “Liar”‘s onstage choreography will be done by Dreamworks and Nickelodeon alums Kelly Sweeney and Guy Groove.
Cyprus’ Eurovision Journey
The Mediterranean nation made its debut in the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981, where Island participated with the song “Monika” and place 6th. Since then, Cyprus has participated 39 times (32 of which where they qualified for the Grand Final).
In 2023, CyBC internally selected Andrew Lambrou to represent them in Liverpool with the song “Break A Broken Heart”. During their participation in Liverpool, Andrew qualified for the final, before going on to finish in 12th place with a total of 126 points. The juries gave Cyprus 68 points, whilst the televote awarded Andrew 58 points.
