In their interview with Rory, Angelina Mango talked about her pride in having an all-female team to take her to Eurovision. She also gives her reasons for her tribute to her dad in Sanremo, as well as revealing her need for boredom in her life.

Who are Angelina Mango?

Angelina Mango is a 23-year-old singer-songwriter from the town of Maratea in the region of Basilicata in southern Italy. The daughter of singing parents, Angelina grew up in a creative house, learning to dance for a decade from the age of 5. After performing in bands and taking on her studies, Mango released her first EP Monolocale in November 2020. Her big break would come in 2022, when she finished in second place on Amici di Maria De Filippi. Since then, Angelina’s career has reached new heights, and will now represent Italy with her song “La Noia” in Malmö. The song was written by Angelina herself, alongside Dardust and Madame – each of their own Sanremo fame.

Italy’s Eurovision journey

Italy have participated in the Eurovision Song Contest since the very beginning and have always been considered a powerhouse in the contest. Italy have won the contest on three occasions in 1964, 1990 and 2021. Italy withdrew after 1997, returning again in 2011 with Raphael Gualazzi who sang ‘Madness Of Love’. Raphael placed second in the 2011 Eurovison Song Contest after scoring 189 points.

Italy’s most recent entry in 2023 was “Due Vite” by Marco Mengoni. At the close of voting, Italy scored a total of 350 points in the Eurovision 2023 Grand Final, placing 4th. Of these, 176 points came from the juries, whilst the remaining 174 points came from the televote.
