Watch our interview with MARTA here!

Daniel and MARTA talked about her Supernova song “Lovable”, her recent change to releasing music in English rather than Latvian, her newfound and growing international fanbase, and Wicked the Musical even gets a mention!

About MARTA

34-year-old Marta Grigale is no stranger to Supernova, having competed in 2016 with “Choices”, making it to the semi-final stage. She has been releasing music for coming up to 10 years, initially in her native Latvian, before pivoting to English releases in 2023.

As well as a singer, she is a seasoned theater performer, having graduated from the University of West London’s college of music in 2012, with a Bachelor’s in Musical Theatre Acting, then going on star in several Latvian theatre performances. She also hosted shows on Latvia’s Radio 5 between 2014 and 2023.

Latvia’s Eurovision journey

Latvia made their Eurovision debut in 2000, finishing 3rd with “My Star” by Brainstorm. They have performed at every contest since and quickly won in 2002. Marie N sang “I Wanna,” scoring 176 points and bringing Eurovision to Riga. Since then, Latvia has finished in the top 10 two more times, in 2005 and 2015.

Latvia’s most recent entry on the Eurovision stage was Dons, who performed “Hollow”. The song qualified from the semi-final, bringing Latvia to the grand final for the first time since 2016. In the Grand Final Dons finished in 16th with 64 points, 26 from the public vote and 38 from the national juries.

Supernova‘s tenth edition will start with a semifinal on 1 February and conclude on 8 February; 20 songs will fight for the opportunity to represent Latvia at Eurovision 2025 in Basel, Switzerland.
