🇲🇹 Alexandra Alden disqualified from Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2025

Not long after the participants of Malta Eurovision Song Contest 2025 were announced, we already have a disqualification. Malta’s broadcaster PBS have announced that Alexandra Alden has been disqualified from next year’s competition.

Committed to maintaining a fair and transparent process for all participants

In a statement, PBS mentioned that Alexandra Alden’s entry “Magnolia” was published before November 30, 2024. The disqualification by PBS was undertaken after the reveal, where it received information that the entry was released before this date. After the investigation, PBS took the necessary steps to ensure compliance with the competition rules.

At the time of writing, it is yet to be announced who will be replacing Alexandra Alden at MESC 2025.

Malta’s Eurovision Journey

Malta made its Eurovision debut in 1971, with Joe Grech performing “Marija I-Maltija” (Maria from Malta), finishing 18th with 52 points. Malta did not participate in Eurovision from 1975 until 1991, when they returned with the song “Could It Be” by Paul Giordimaina and Georgina, finishing 12th with 32 points. Since then, Malta has been at every Eurovision and finished in the top 10 an impressive 12 times. Their best result is second place, which they’ve achieved twice: first in 2002, with Ira Losco’s “7th Wonder,” and again in 2005 with Chiara’s “Angel.”

Sarah Bonnici represented Malta in 2024 with her song “Loop”; she placed sixteenth in her semifinal, ultimately scoring 13 points.
