About “Kaldur Vetrarmorgun”

Kaldur Vetrarmorgun (Cold Winter Morning) is described by it’s creators as a “dark and stormy Christmas song” – Those creators are TÁR, a duo comprised of Elín Ey, best known as part of Systur and their house-music side project Sisy Ey, as well as ZÖE, the pseudonym of Zoe-Ruth Erwin, an American-born singer who lives and works in Iceland.

What do we think?

Firstly, I would like to apologise to Lake Malawi & Tamar Kramar, because I originally had their song “Another Christmas Song” pencilled in for the 22nd, but the second I heard this song when it released at the end of last month, I knew it had to go in the list. Simply put, it’s one of the best and most beautiful songs I’ve heard all year. The pair’s voices are absolutely beautiful and harmonise brilliantly, and the composition, with all the parts that make it up, is nothing short of ethereal. I’m very optimistic at them saying this is their “first” dark and stormy Christmas song, because they could release hundreds of these and I wouldn’t get tired of them. If you put any song from this month’s festivities into your Christmas playlists, then I say make it this one.

TÁR’s Eurovision Journey

Both members of TÁR were involved as Systur represented Iceland at the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022, when they competed with the song Með Hækkandi Sól, which finished 23rd in Turin. Elín Ey was part of the main trio alongside her sisters Sigga and Beta, whilst ZÖE provided backing vocals for both their Söngvakeppnin and Eurovision performances.
