Now that the utterly chaotic 2025 National Final season is over, and we now have all the songs that will be competing at the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest in Basel. Instead of taking a breather, it’s time to deep dive and being overly analytical about ever single song in That Eurovision Jury 2025.

While there’s no way to accurately predict what the juries or televotes will decide next month, we can say how we would vote if we were jurors, because boy do we have some strong opinions here at TES.

No Rules! (okay we do have to have some rules)

The 36 countries competing this year have been randomly sorted into 6 segments. Each segment will be voted on by 5 jurors. They have assessed based on six categories: Melodic Impact, Artist Presence, Individuality, Attention Drawing, Vocal Fit, and Lyrical Impact. Exact specifications of these criteria can be found below. Our five jurors have given a score of 1 to 5 on each of the six topics, allowing each juror to give a maximum of 30 points to each song. In total there are up to 150 points available to each song. Once every song and score has been presented a full breakdown with a ranking of all 36 of this year’s entries.

Additionally, all of our jurors were asked to give one positive, and one negative comment about each song in a constructive manner. In line with our current editorial policy Israel will not be reviewed as part of this jury. You can read more about our stance here.

These are our personal opinions based on the criteria outlined. This is in no way attempt to accurately predict what will be the outcome of live shows and should not be taken as such.

Countries And Jurors For Part One

The six countries that make up the first segment being voted on are: Switzerland, Ukraine, Serbia, Armenia, Denmark, and Luxembourg.

The jurors voting in this segment are: Samantha, Molly, Lewis, Tim, and Kittens.

Voting Criteria

Criteria 1: Melodic Impact

How lasting is the beat of the track. The more the beat stays, the higher the ranking.

Criteria 2: Artist’s Presence

If a national final is used, how their presence on stage affected the performance. If an internal selection was used, and no pre-party of other live footage is available then their presence is assessed based on their history.

Criteria 3: Individuality

How different is the song compared to the rest of the acts participating this year.

Criteria 4: Attention Drawing

How drawn in are you by the song. Are you waiting for it to finish, or completely engrossed.

Criteria 5: Vocal Fit

Assessing the vocal fit of the artist to the song rather than judging their technical ability in full. ie. X singer may have a wider range to Y singer, though singer Y may utilise the range better in their song and therefore should be ranked higher than X.

Criteria 6: Lyrical Impact

How lasting are the lyrics to you. Has listening to it left you singing the song.

Positives

Molly: Overall, her vocals are excellent, and she can portray the darker version of the revamp well without impacting her vocal quality. She shows that she is capable of singing this well live. The song using the puppet motif and it takes the original song is a take I quite enjoy and I am interested to see how this is translated onto the Eurovision stage.

Kittens: It’s catchy and very listenable. Her voice fits the song very well. The nods to the original track are nice and grab some attention.

Lewis: I love the nostalgic elements of this song. A clear and thought out tribute to Luxembourg’s victory in 1965 with “Poupée de cire, poupée de son”

Samantha: Laura is a good performer and the bridge will get the audience on her side.

Tim: Uniquely French, really bubbly

Negatives

Molly: They revamped the song to be darker from Laura’s original version; however, to me it rips the fun aspect of the song I originally enjoyed. The song itself is saved by Laura’s vocals and stage presence; however, by adding a darker edge, the song has become to sound messier and disjointed compared to its original counterpart.

Kittens: Quite forgettable in its current form. It’s fun while it’s on, but doesn’t really stand out from the flock in general and would need big staging to make that difference.

Lewis: Though Laura’s song is a homage to France Gall’s winning entry, there is concern that many casual fans will think this sounds a bit dated.

Samantha: The song is nothing new and quite forgettable compared to other tracks and performances.

Tim: Too poppy, the audience might not understand it

Positives

Molly: The song is an energetic pop song, which, for Eurovision this year, stands out, which could help it do well. The vocals are amazing and one thing that carries this song forward. She has fun on stage, and that energy is something that helps bring the song together, especially with a dance song like this one.

Kittens: Vocally one of the most impressive and consistent singers we have this year.

Lewis: Hallucination is a very catchy song and sonically very well produced!

Samantha: Sissal has an incredible voice, and “Hallucination” has a catchy beat that also has a strong performance to go alongside it.

Tim: A banger, and such an earworm.

Negatives

Molly: The song is a little dated, which may hurt it compared to the more trendy songs within the competition. The staging is lackluster and will need to be significantly elevated to help the performance. The staging impacts the stage presence as well and can help it look more focused.

Kittens: The song & lyrics are nothing we’ve not heard before and the staging and aesthetics need some heavy work from the NF performance to grab attention.

Lewis: Unfortunately, the staging for the national final performance left a lot to be desired. For this to succeed in Basel, I feel like that needs to be reconsidered.

Samantha: Probably a more generic song compared to others, so may get a bit lost in amongst other performances. The staging has to change from DMGP in order to stand out

Tim: Might be too generic for the locals when it comes to Eurovision.

Positives

Molly: The vocals definitely fit the elegant theming of the song bringing it all together. This song will definitely appeal to an older audience especially audiences that prefer traditional balkan ballads. His vocals are very good and clear and add to the dramatic elements of the song as well as the more emotional parts.

Kittens: An excellent performer who will be able to deliver the vocals expertly on the night

Lewis: Princ is a competent and charismatic performer with a strong and consistent vocal.

Samantha: Princ has a strong voice that helps him to convey the emotions of the song. I quite like the rock vibes towards the end of the song.

Tim: A definition of a Balkan ballad.

Negatives

Molly: The song may sound nice however there are many ballads that could go against this song and overshadow it which could hurt its chances of qualifying. The staging is not focused on the singer and adds to many elements that could distract from the song and the singer. There needs to be more stripping away of these extra elements to increase its chances in Eurovision

Kittens: It’s just quite dull both musically and lyrically and plods along without ever really reaching a peak to attract attention.

Lewis: Unfortunately “Mila” as a song doesn’t do anything particularly interesting and the staging during the national final performance was far too kitchen sink without substance.

Samantha: “Mila” does not stand out and is imminently forgettable

Tim: Will not be accessible to the generic public.

Armenia 🇦🇲 Parg – Survivor

Positives

Molly: The performer has a lot of charisma that helps carry the song forward. This melds well with the energetic vibes of the song. The staging has potential and adding to it can help add to the song and that rock element to it. The rock genre is more underrepresented this year so Survivor could benefit from that aspec

Kittens: It’s a big stonking power pop moment which will be delivered with aplomb

Lewis: Sonically, this song can be connected to such artists as Imagine Dragons so there is definitely a market for it.

Samantha: PARG has a nice stage presence.

Tim: Love the stage presence, and hopefully, this translates to the stage.

Negatives

Molly: The vocals may fit the song however the quality of his vocals do make me worry for whether this could be kept up at Eurovision without impacting his vocal cords. The song is very basic and will most likely get overshadowed by other songs. The staging needs more added to it so that it can elevate the song in the contest

Kittens: I really dislike the semi-spoken word sections, and the lyrics are particularly tired.

Lewis: The national final choreography felt a bit lacklustre for me so I hope that for Basel they have gave this more thought.

Samantha: No matter how many times I listen to it, it doesn’t stick with me, and vocally, the national final performance was on the weak side, the instrumental takes over too much.

Tim: The beat sounds like something you’d hear from a TV advert.

Positives

Molly: The song is very melodically beautiful and is one of the standouts amongst the ballads of this year. The staging and the vocals help bring the package together. The way the vocals help carry the more fantasy theming of the song help bring it all together.

Kittens: the melody and flow of the song make it quite memorable and there’s nothing else quite like this in the rest of the competition

Lewis: This song and entry is incredibly unique (even for Ukraine’s standards) and will stand out from the rest of the competition.

Samantha: Quite original compared to other entries this year and that will set it apart. A good performance to go with it, and I like that Ziferblat remain authentic.

Tim: How instinctively Ukrainian it is, and how this is blended to the track.

Negatives

Molly: As much as the song is well put together and a very good ballad. With the amount of ballads this season it could be overshadowed. It will be interesting to see how the complex staging will be translated over to Eurovision since sometimes having such a complex stage can impact a performance if not translated over well

Kittens: a bit of a slow burner, which is less ideal for the Eurovision stage. Will need to make a big impact to stand out in the three minutes it has.

Lewis: It took me a few listens to fully fall in love with this song. I am concerned that casual fans of Eurovision may not vote for this song on first listen alone.

Samantha: I fear that it will get lost amongst stronger tracks if the performance is not elevated. At times it also gets boring.

Tim: Unsure if the general public would see something in it.

Positives

Molly: The song is such a beautiful mix of elements put together of both the soft and dramatic. Her voice helps fit both these elements showing the versatility in her voice. I am excited to see how the music video elements will play into the staging, which I can imagine being both dramatic but also matching the beautiful elements of the song.

Kittens: vocally & lyrically beautiful and will stand out amongst the noisier elements of the competition this year

Lewis: I love how gentle and fragile this song is both sonically and vocally. This will stand out in a year where I don’t believe we have many low tempo songs.

Samantha: Zoë has one hell of a voice and instantly takes you on a voyage. It is authentic and captivating. Usually with these kinds of songs they can be boring, but this just works so well.

Tim: Hauntingly beautiful, probably the best host country entry I have seen to date.

Negatives

Molly: Her voice is very soft, so it maybe more challenging for her to portray those more dramatic elements live. I am worried that the staging may not be able to balance the dramatics and also keep the focus on the slower elements of the song and in the end, add too much that it becomes distracting

Kittens: it’s a bit repetitive and moves along a bit too slowly for my personal liking.

Lewis: These type of songs can be really divisive amongst Eurovision fans. Where some admire these softer, lowkey entries, some will not care for this and cater themselves more for fast paced, up-tempo songs. This song does not have universal appeal.

Samantha: The performance in Basel will determine many people’s opinion on the song, you’re either going to love it or forget all about it. It certainly treads on the line of beautiful or boring.

Tim: Unsure how this would be staged to show the emotional impact.
