Greece’s national broadcaster ERT has confirmed that it will be competing in the 70th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest.
Greece “satisfied” with Basel result
Following Klavdia‘s impressive sixth place in Basel, the ERT administration was reportedly very satisfied with the results. The final also saw a major rise in viewership, reaching a peak of a 70% vote share during the broadcast.
ERT has now confirmed that the success has been so strong, the broadcaster has confirmed it will permanently move to a national final, meaning Ethnikós Telikós will be back for Eurovision 2026. According to iEidiseis, ERT is planning semi-final stages for the selection, but this is still at an early stage.
On top of this, Greek commentators Maria Kozakou and Giorgos Kapoutzidis were particularly praised for their remarks over the week of the Contest. These two will now work together once again for the 2026 edition of the Contest.
Greece’s Eurovision journey
In 1974, Greece made its debut to the Eurovision Song Contest with “Krasi, thalassa ke t’agori mou” which placed 11th. Since then they have participated on 44 occasions (41 of which made the Grand Final), and have won once, in 2005.
Greece’s most recent Eurovision participation saw them being represented by Klavdia with the song “Asteromáta”. Following her performance, Greece qualified for the Grand Final, finishing in 6th place. She earned a total of 231 points, of which 105 were from the national juries and 126 were from the televoters.
