With Eurovision 2026 still months away, Ukraine has become the latest country to formally confirm its participation at next year’s Contest.
Ukraine listening to fans
In a press release, Ukraine’s Head of Delegation Oksana Skybinska explained that Ukrainians will prepare to show off their musical DNA. It comes after broadcaster Suspilne reached out to fans to ask for feedback on last year’s national selection Vidbir.
Skybinska explained:
In 2026, Eurovision will be a landmark musical event as it marks the Contest’s anniversary. Large-scale events and heightened media attention are exactly what we can expect.
For Ukraine, this is a chance to make our voice heard louder than ever and once again affirm the strength and uniqueness of our musical DNA.
Considering the challenges posed by the previous contest, we want to prove that Ukraine is above all about incredible artists who create music of European quality, set trends, convey profound meanings, and through their own example proudly demonstrate the high level of creativity born under the incomparable hardships of war.
On top of this Oksana confirmed that Vidbir would be returning as the national selection for Austria. She added there were already “surprises” waiting for fans, adding they will be revealed very soon.
Ukraine’s Eurovision journey
Ukraine is one of the most successful countries to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. The country has scored nine top-five placements, with an extra four top-ten finishes. Ukraine won the Contest three times – in 2004, 2016 and 2022 respectively. Ukraine made history for being the first ex-Soviet country to win the Contest more than once.
In 2025, Ziferblat represented Ukraine in Basel with their song “Bird of Pray”. The band finished in 9th place, scoring 218 points – of which 60 points came from the jury, whilst the remaining 158 points came from the televote.
